The genome sequence of the dotted bee-fly, Bombylius discolor (Mikan, 1796).

ABSTRACT: We present a genome assembly from an individual female Bombylius discolor (the dotted bee-fly; Arthropoda; Insecta; Diptera; Bombyliidae). The genome sequence is 280 megabases in span. Most of the assembly (99.93%) is scaffolded into six chromosomal pseudomolecules, with the X sex chromosome assembled. The mitochondrial genome has also been assembled and is 16.7 kilobases in length. Genome annotation identified 10,411 protein-coding genes.

The complete chloroplast genome sequence of Ludisia discolor from Hainan of China.

Project description:Ludisia discolor is one of the most important ornamental and medicinal orchids. To improve our understanding of the evolution of chloroplast, we resequenced complete chloroplast (cp) genome of L. discolor from Hainan, China. The cp genome sequence of L. discolor of Hainan was 153,324 bp in length, with a large single-copy (LSC) region of 82,922 bp, a small single-copy (SSC) region of 17,258 bp, and a pair of inverted repeats (IR) regions of 26,572 bp. Complete chloroplast genome contain 132 genes, there were 86 protein-coding genes, 38 tRNA genes and eight rRNA genes. The phylogenetic tree showed that L. discolor of Hainan is sister to L. discolor (unknown distributed region). Their cp genomes have same gene number but different in length of genome, indicating high conserved among them.

Whole chloroplast genome sequence and phylogenetic analysis of Calanthe discolor (Orchidaceae).

Project description:The orchid Calanthe discolor, which has high ornamental and medicinal value, is mainly distributed in Zhejiang, Jiangsu, and southeast Hubei Provinces of China, as well as in Japan and the southern Korean peninsula. In this study, the whole chloroplast genome sequence of C. discolor was first assembled using high-throughput Illumina paired-end technology, providing data to evaluate the evolution of this species. The C. discolor chloroplast genome was158,286 bp long, including a large single-copy region of 87,095 bp, a small single-copy region of 18,407 bp, and two copies of a repeat region (26,392-bp each). The overall G + C content was 41.2%. A total of 133 genes were predicted from the genome, including 87 protein-coding genes, eight ribosomal RNAs, 38 transfer RNAs. Phylogenetic analysis indicated a close relationship between C. discolor and C. bicolor.

Draft genome sequence of the Algerian bee Apis mellifera intermissa.

Project description:Apis mellifera intermissa is the native honeybee subspecies of Algeria. A. m. intermissa occurs in Tunisia, Algeria and Morocco, between the Atlas and the Mediterranean and Atlantic coasts. This bee is very important due to its high ability to adapt to great variations in climatic conditions and due to its preferable cleaning behavior. Here we report the draft genome sequence of this honey bee, its Whole Genome Shotgun project has been deposited at DDBJ/EMBL/GenBank under the accession JSUV00000000. The 240-Mb genome is being annotated and analyzed. Comparison with the genome of other Apis mellifera sub-species promises to yield insights into the evolution of adaptations to high temperature and resistance to Varroa parasite infestation.

A Chromosome-Level Genome Assembly of Ephestia elutella (Hubner, 1796) (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae).

Project description:The moth Ephestia elutella (Hübner), is a storage pest that feeds on tobacco, cacao beans, cereals, dried fruits, and nuts. We generated a chromosome-level genome assembly containing 576.94 Mb using Nanopore long reads (approximately 130×) and Hi-C data (approximately 134×). The final assembly contained 804 scaffolds, with an N50 length of 19.00 Mb, and 94.96% (547.89 Mb) of the assembly was anchored into 31 pseudochromosomes. We masked 58.12% (335.32 Mb) of the genome as repetitive elements, identified 727 noncoding RNAs, and predicted 15,637 protein-coding genes. Gene family evolution and functional enrichment analyses revealed significantly expanded gene families primarily involved in digestion, detoxification, and chemosensation. Strong chromosomal syntenic relationships were also observed among E. elutella, silkworm, and tobacco cutworm. This study could provide a valuable genomic basis for better understanding the biology of E. elutella.
