<i>Vibrio vulnificus</i> is a Gram-negative bacterium, a member of the <i>Vibrionaceae</i> family. <i>V. vulnificus</i> is the main cause of seafood-related deaths in the United States because it can cause severe wound infections or sepsis. This microorganism is highly dependent on iron availability. Therefore, patients with high body iron levels are more susceptible to the infection.
