Hydrogenation of carbon dioxide (CO<sub>2</sub>) to produce formic acid (HCOOH) in base-free condition can avoid waste producing and simplify product separation process. However, it remains a big challenge because of the unfavorable energy in both thermodynamics and dynamics.
