Six new species of Diostracus Loew (Diptera, Dolichopodidae) from Tibet.

ABSTRACT: Six species of Diostracus from Tibet are described as new to science: D.concavussp. nov., D.fasciculatussp. nov., D.laetussp. nov., D.polytrichussp. nov., D.strenussp. nov., and D.translucidussp. nov. A key to the species from Tibet of the genus is provided. The distribution of the genus in Tibet is also discussed.

A revision of the Nearctic species of Liancalus Loew (Diptera, Dolichopodidae).

Project description:The genus Liancalus Loew is revised for the Nearctic Region. Seven species are documented from this region including two new species: Liancalusgenualis Loew, Liancalushydrophilus Aldrich, Liancaluslimbatus Van Duzee, Liancaluspterodactyl sp. n., Liancalusquerulus Osten Sacken, Liancalussimilis Aldrich, and Liancalussonorus sp. n. Lectotypes are designated for the following species: Liancalusgenualis, Liancalushydrophilus, Liancalusquerulus, and Liancalussimilis. The species are illustrated, a key to males and females is provided, and their distributions mapped. Adults of Liancalus are some of the largest species of Dolichopodidae and commonly occur on waterfalls and vertical seeps.

Project description:Previously, no records of Syntormon Loew, 1857 species were known from Inner Mongolia (China). The genus is reported here from Inner Mongolia for the first time, with the description of a new species, S.sinicum sp. nov., along with two previously described species, S.dukha Hollis, 1964 and S.henanense Yang & Saigusa, 2000. Syntormonsinicum sp. nov. and S.dukha Hollis, 1964 are barcoded for the first time to support the species delimitation. A key to Syntormon species in China is provided.
