Butyrylcholinesterase (BChE) is a major enzyme from the alpha-glycoprotein family that catalyzes the hydrolysis of neurotransmitter acetylcholine (ACh), lowering the concentration of ACh in the nervous system, which could cause aggravation of Alzheimer's disease (AD).
