Drug-induced mitochondrial dysfunction is a common adverse effect, particularly in case of statins-the most prescribed drugs worldwide. These drugs have been shown to inhibit complex III (CIII) of the mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation process, which is related to muscle pain.
