Quantitative sensory testing (QST) is a valuable tool in the assessment of orofacial somatosensory function and dysfunction. QST is a method where thermal and mechanical stimuli are applied to the area of interest in a noninvasive way. The QST technique can detect patterns of loss of sensation that may happen in case of hypoesthesia, hypoalgesia, anesthesia, or gain of sensation in the context of allodynia, hyperalgesia or spontaneous pain.
