Alanine racemase (Alr) is a pyridoxal 5'-phosphate-dependent enzyme that catalyzes the racemization of l-alanine to d-alanine. Alr is one of the two targets of the broad-spectrum antibiotic d-cycloserine (DCS), a structural analogue of d-alanine.
