The Costa Rican pygmy rice rat (<i>Oligoryzomys costaricensis</i>) is the primary reservoir of <i>Choclo orthohantavirus</i> (CHOV), the causal agent of hantavirus disease, pulmonary syndrome, and fever in humans in Panama.
