ABSTRACT: Background
The aim of this study was to evaluate risk factors for red blood cell (RBC) transfusion in non-cardiac thoracic surgery. Methods
All patients undergoing non-cardiac thoracic surgery in a single tertiary referral center between January and December 2021 were eligible for this study. Data on blood requests and perioperative RBC transfusion were retrospectively analyzed. Results

Patients with lung resections required transfusion in 2.4% of the cases versus 44.7% in patients undergoing surgery for empyema. In multivariable analysis, empyema (P=0.001), open surgery (P<0.001), low preop
