The complete mitochondrial genome of Spurilla braziliana MacFarland 1909 (Nudibranchia, Aeolidiidae).

ABSTRACT: Spurilla braziliana MacFarland 1909 is a morphologically diverse nudibranch found in the Pacific and Western Atlantic. The complete mitochondrial genome of S. braziliana has been constructed using next-generation sequencing technology. The mitochondrial genome is 14,291 bp and contains 13 protein-coding genes, 2 rRNA genes, and 23 tRNA genes. Molecular phylogenetic analysis using the maximum likelihood method revealed that S. braziliana is included in the superfamily Aeolidioidea and forms a monophyletic group with Berghia stephanieae, a nudibranch of the family Aeolidiidae. This study reinforces existing taxonomic insights and provides a basis for further molecular phylogenetic analysis.

Project description:Exorista japonica (Townsend, 1909), a dipteran tachinid fly, is an endoparasitoid of lepidopteran larvae as a potential biological agent. We have determined a 17,663 bp mitogenome of E. japonica which includes 13 protein-coding genes, 2 ribosomal RNA genes, 22 transfer RNAs, and a single large non-coding region of 2,773 bp. The base composition was AT-biased (81.4%). Phylogenetic trees present monophyly of Tachinidae and Exoristinae, where two Exorista species are clustered in single clade, Exoristini. The E. japonica mitogenome will be a good resource for understanding phylogenetic relationship among species of Tachinidae presenting morphological and ecological complexities.

Complete mitochondrial genome analysis of Sakuraeolis japonica (Baba, 1937) (Mollusca, Gastropoda, Nudibranchia).

Project description:In this study, a complete mitochondrial genome of a nudibranch species, Sakuraeolis japonica was sequenced and analyzed. The mitochondrial genome size is 15,059 bp with 28.1% A, 14.9% C, 19.3% G, and 37.7% T nucleotide distributions. This is the eighth record for complete mitochondrial genome of the Nudibranchia and first record for the genus. Furthermore, phylogenetic relationship of S. Japonica in the Nudibranchia was investigated by using protein-coding genes of complete mitochondrial genome. The present study suggests that S. japonica belongs to the family Facelinidae and it is placed in monophyletic Nudibranchia. The closest species to S. japonica are Chromodoris magnifica and Chromodoris quadricolor that belong to the family Chromodorididae.

Characterization of the complete mitochondrial genome of Okenia hiroi (Baba, 1938) (Nudibranchia, Goniodorididae).

Project description:Okenia is a speciose genus of the family Goniodorididae with more than 50 valid species. The phylogenetic relationships within the genus are little known. The mitogenome is a good marker to understand the phylogenetic relationships of relative species. This study was performed to sequence the mitogenome of O. hiroi. The mitogenome of O. hiroi was 14,583 bp in size and was composed of 37 genes, including 13 protein-coding genes, two ribosomal RNA genes, and 22 tRNA genes. The nucleotide composition was 30.5% A, 13.6% C, 16.5% G, and 39.4% T. The phylogenetic analysis showed that O. hiroi is sister to Notodoris gardineri (Aegiridae). This study recorded the first mitochondrial genome sequence of the family Goniodorididae.

The complete mitochondrial genome of the Oriental sea slug: Chromodoris orientalis (Nudibranchia, Chromodorididae).

Project description:The mitogenome sequence of sea slug, Chromodoris orientalis (Nudibranchia, Chromodorididae), has been decoded for the first time by coverage genome sequencing method. The overall base composition of C. orientalis mitogenome is 30.5% for A, 14.7% for C, 18.0% for G and 36.9% for T, and has low GC content 32.6%. The assembled mitogenome, consisting of 14,266 bp, has unique 13 protein-coding genes, 22 transfer RNAs, and two ribosomal RNAs genes. The C. orientalis mitogenome has the common mitogenome gene order and feature of Nudipleura (a clade of sea slugs and sea snails). The complete mitogenome of C. orientalis provides essential and important DNA molecular data for further phylogenetic and evolutionary analysis for sea slugs and sea snails.

Project description:In this study, complete nucleotide sequences of the mitochondrial genome of a nudibranch species, Hypselodoris festiva (A. Adams, 1861) were determined and characterized. The mitogenome size is 14 880 bp. This is the longest among the known nudibranch mitochondrial genomes. Furthermore, phylogenetic relationship of H. festiva in the Nudibranchia reconstructed due to amino acid sequences of mitochondrial protein coding genes. This is the sixth record for complete mitochondrial genome of the Nudibranchia.

The Complete Mitochondrial Genome and Phylogenetic Analysis of Rhagastis binoculata (Matsumura, 1909) (Lepidoptera: Sphingidae).

Project description:The mitochondrial genome (mitogenome) Rhagastis binoculata (Matsumura, 1909), an endemic moth species in Taiwan, was sequenced and analyzed. The complete circular mitogenome of R. binoculata is 15,303 bp and contains 13 protein-coding genes, 22 transfer RNA genes, 2 ribosomal RNA genes, and an AT-rich control region. The mitogenome has an overall nucleotide composition of 41.2% A, 11.9% C, 7.5% G, and 39.4% T, with an AT content of 80.6%. Of the protein-coding genes (PCGs), 12 start with ATG, ATT, and ATC, and COX1 starts with a "CGA" codon. All of the stop codons are "TAA, TAG, or T". Our phylogenetic analysis of 21 species of Sphingidae insects suggests that R. binoculata is clustered with Rhagastis mongoliana, which belongs to the subfamily Macroglossinae.

Project description:Berghia stephanieae (Nudibranchia, Cladobranchia) is a photosymbiotic sea slug that feeds exclusively on sea anemones from the genus Exaiptasia. It then specifically incorporates dinoflagellates belonging to the Symbiodiniaceae obtained from their prey. Here, we present the complete mitochondrial genome sequence of B. stephanieae combining Oxford Nanopore long read and Illumina short-read sequencing data. The mitochondrial genome has a total length of 14,786 bp, it contains the 13 protein-encoding genes, 23 tRNAs, and two rRNAs and is similar to other nudibranchs except for the presence of a duplicated tRNA-Ser 1.

The complete mitochondrial genome of D. krusensternii is 14,361 bp long, comprising 13 genes, including 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 22 transfer RNAs, and two ribosomal RNAs. The nucleotide composition was estimated: 28.7% A, 14.8% C, 19.6% G, and 36.9% T. Phylogenetic analysis was performed using the maximum likelihood method (including 13 PCGs). D. krusensternii is related to the Phyllidiidae (superfamily Phyllidioidea), suggesting a distinct phylogenetic placement within Nudibranchia. This study represents a genomic resource, contributing to molecular studies on the evolution of the Dendrodorididae.

Complete mitochondrial genome of the Satanas beetle, Dynastes satanas Moser, 1909 (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae).

Project description:In this study, we sequenced and analyzed the mitochondrial genome of the Satanas beetle, Dynastes satanas Moser, 1909, which was intercepted by Chinese Customs during an attempted smuggling operation in 2022. The complete mitochondrial genome is 16,973 bp in length (GenBank accession number: OQ998898) and contains 13 protein-coding genes, 22 tRNAs, 2 rRNAs, and a control region of 2285 bp. The gene order of trnQ-trnI-trnM in the mitochondrial genome of Dynastes satanas is consistent with that of other species in the genus Dynastes. All 13 PCGs are initiated by the ATN start codon. Seven genes terminate with the TAA stop codon, one with TAG, and five with a single T. The nucleotide composition of mitochondrial genome of Dynastes satanas was 38.07% of A, 31.49% of T, 20.52% of C, and 9.92% of G. Phylogenetic analysis indicates that Dynastes satanas and Dynastes neptunus (Quensel, 1805) exhibit a considerable genetic distance, suggesting that they should be classified as two distinct subgenera.

Complete chloroplast genome of green alga Caulerpa sertularioides f. longipes (J.Agardh) Collins, 1909.

Project description:The complete chloroplast (cp) genome of Caulerpa sertularioides f. longipes was first assembled and characterized using Illumina pair-end sequencing from the South China Sea. It is 133,626 bp long, with a GC content of 32.94%. In total, 92 genes were identified in the genome, and they consisted 60 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 30 tRNA genes, and 2 rRNA genes. Like other species in Caulerpa, the whole cp genome of C. sertularioides f. longipes did not demonstrate an obvious quadripartite structure. A total of 31 microsatellites (SSRs) were identified in the cp genome using MISA. A phylogenetic tree revealed that C. sertularioides f. longipes was closer to Caulerpa cupressoides, which further clarified the phylogenetic relationships of species in Caulerpa.
