The impermeable outer membrane of <i>Pseudomonas aeruginosa</i> is bypassed by antibacterial proteins known as S-type pyocins. Because of their properties, pyocins are investigated as a potential new class of antimicrobials against <i>Pseudomonas</i> infections. Their production and modification, however, remain challenging.
