Celiac disease (CD) is an autoimmune disease in which intestinal inflammation is induced by dietary gluten. The means through which gluten-specific CD4<sup>+</sup> T cell activation culminates in intraepithelial T cell (T-IEL)-mediated intestinal damage remain unclear.
