Reservoir inventory for China in 2016 and 2021.

ABSTRACT: Reservoir inventories are essential for investigating the impact of climate change and anthropogenic activities on water scape changes. They provide fundamental data sources to explore the sustainability and management efficiency of water resources. However, publicly released reservoir inventories are currently limited to a single temporal domain. As a result, the effectiveness of governmental policy implementation on water resources remains to be explored due to the lack of multi-time datasets. In this study, we generated a reservoir inventory for China for the years 2016 and 2021 with an overall accuracy of 99.71%. The reservoirs were visually interpreted from annually composited Landsat images, and each reservoir is represented by a polygon with attributes of reservoir name, area and storage capacity. About 10.32% of the reservoirs have increased storage capacity from 2016 to 2021, while 22.73% have decreased. Most provinces and river basins in China have expanded their accumulated storage capacity from 2016 to 2021.

Project description:BackgroundHealth Technology Assessment (HTA) in China has recently expanded from purely academic research to include policy or decision-oriented practice, especially after HTA evidence was used to update the National Reimbursement Drug List for the first time in 2017. This study aims to identify the progress and challenges of HTA development from 2016 to 2021 and inform policies and decisions to promote further HTA development in China.MethodsWe conducted a cross-sectional web-based survey with policy makers, researchers and industry-providers in China in 2016 and 2021 respectively. The 'Mapping of HTA Instrument', was utilized to assess the HTA development across eight domains: Institutionalization, Identification, Priority setting, Assessment, Appraisal, Reporting, Dissemination of findings and conclusions, and Implementation in policy and practice. To reduce the influence of confounders and compare the mapping outcomes between the 2016 and 2021 groups, we conducted 1:1 Propensity Score Matching (PSM). Univariate analysis was conducted to compare the differences between the two groups. The overall results were further compared with those of a mapping study that included ten countries.ResultsIn total, 212 and 255 respondents completed the survey in 2016 and 2021, respectively. The total score of the HTA development level in China in 2021 was higher than that in 2016 before PSM (89.38 versus 83.96). Following PSM, 183 respondents from the 2016 and 2021 groups were matched. Overall, the mean scores for most indicators in the Institutionalization domain and Dissemination domain in 2021 were higher than those in 2016 (P < 0.05). The Appraisal domain in 2021 was more explicit, transparent and replicable than that in 2016 (t = -3.279, P < 0.05). However, the mean scores of most indicators in the Assessment domain were higher in 2016 than those in 2021 (P < 0.05).ConclusionsOur study suggest that the level of HTA development in China progressed significantly from 2016 to 2021. However, before engaging in HTA activities, further efforts are required to enhance the assessment process. For instance, it is important to establish a clear goal and scope for HTA; adapt standardized methodologies for evaluating the performance of systematic reviews or meta-analyses; and provide comprehensive descriptions of the safety, clinical effectiveness, cost, and cost-effectiveness of the assessed technologies, thus improving the development of HTA in China.

Project description:BackgroundRodents are the predominant natural hosts of orthohantavirus and the source of human infection, hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS) caused by orthohantavirus is a severe public health problem in the Yichun region, Jiangxi Province, China. However, little information is known about the infection of orthohantavirus in humans and rodents, and the genetic characteristics of the epidemic orthohantavirus in the region.MethodsThe clinical data of HFRS cases in 2016-2021 was analyzed. Virus infection in rodents was analyzed by orthohantavirus antigen detection using immunofluorescent assay, and the species of orthohantaviruses in rodents and patients were identified by real-time RT-PCR and gene sequencing. The S and M segments of orthohantaviruses from rodents and patients were recovered and analyzed.ResultsA total of 1,573 HFRS cases were reported in the Yichun region from 2016 to 2021, including 11 death cases. HFRS cases peaked twice each year: in winter from November to January and early summer from May to June. Farmers constituted the predominant population suffering from HFRS. The orthohantavirus antigen was identified in five species of rodents: Apodemus agrarius (A. agrarius), Rattus norvegicus (R. norvegicus), Sorex araneus, Rattus losea (R. losea), and Niviventer confucianus (N. confucianus). The real-time RT-PCR test and genetic analysis results showed that Hantaan orthohantavirus (HTNV), Seoul orthohantavirus (SEOV), and Dabieshan orthohantavirus (DBSV) were circulated in the rodents. HTNV, SEOV, and DBSV from the rodents were distantly related to other known orthohantaviruses and belonged to novel genetic lineages. SEOV and HTNV were found in HFRS patients, but 97.8% (90/92) of the infections were caused by HTNV. Winter and early summer peaks were both caused by HTNV. The HTNV sequences recovered from HFRS cases were closely related to those from A. agrarius.ConclusionsIn the Yichun region, the orthohantaviruses transmitted in rodents include HTNV, SEOV, and DBSV, which have obvious genetic characteristics and high genetic diversity. At the same time, this region is an HFRS mixed epidemic area dominated by HTNV, with two peaks every year, which deserves our high attention.
