Project description:BackgroundAge-related macular degeneration (AMD) represents a significant clinical concern, particularly in aging populations, and recent advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) have catalyzed substantial research interest in this domain. Despite the growing body of literature, there remains a need for a comprehensive, quantitative analysis to delineate key trends and emerging areas in the field of AI applications in AMD. This bibliometric analysis sought to systematically evaluate the landscape of AI-focused research on AMD to illuminate publication patterns, influential contributors, and focal research trends.MethodsUsing the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC), a search was conducted to retrieve relevant publications from 1992 to 2023. This analysis involved an array of bibliometric indicators to map the evolution of AI research in AMD, assessing parameters such as publication volume, national/regional and institutional contributions, journal impact, author influence, and emerging research hotspots. Visualization tools, including Bibliometrix, CiteSpace and VOSviewer, were employed to generate comprehensive assessments of the data.ResultsA total of 1,721 publications were identified, with the USA leading in publication output and the University of Melbourne as the most prolific institution. The journal Investigative Ophthalmology & Visual Science published the highest number of articles, and Schmidt-Eerfurth emerged as the most active author. Keyword and clustering analyses, along with citation burst detection, revealed three distinct research stages within the field from 1992 to 2023. Presently, research efforts are concentrated on developing deep learning (DL) models for AMD diagnosis and progression prediction. Prominent emerging themes include early detection, risk stratification, and treatment efficacy prediction. The integration of large language models (LLMs) and vision-language models (VLMs) for enhanced image processing also represents a novel research frontier.ConclusionsThis bibliometric analysis provides a structured overview of prevailing research trends and emerging directions in AI applications for AMD. These findings furnish valuable insights to guide future research and foster collaborative advancements in this evolving field.

Project description:Research on potato diseases had been widely reported, but a systematic review of potato diseases was lacking. Here, bibliometrics was used to systematically analyze the progress of potato disease. The publications related to "potato" and "disease" were searched in the Web of Science (WOS) from 2014 to 2023. The results showed that a total of 2095 publications on potato diseases were retrieved, with the annual publication output increasing year by year at a growth rate of 8.52%. The main countries where publications were issued were the United States, China, and India. There was relatively close cooperation observed between China, the United States, and the United Kingdom in terms of international collaboration, while international cooperation by India was less extensive. Based on citation analysis and trending topics, potential future research directions include nanoparticles, which provides highly effective carriers for biologically active substances due to their small dimensions, extensive surface area, and numerous binding sites; machine learning, which facilitates rapid identification of relevant targets in extensive datasets, thereby accelerating the process of disease diagnosis and fungicide innovation; and synthetic communities composed of various functional microorganisms, which demonstrate more stable effects in disease prevention and control.

Project description:ObjectiveThis study aimed to examine the global research trend and frontiers in the field of root caries.MethodsTwo independent investigators searched the Web of Science Core Collection to include journal articles published on root caries from 1994 to 2023. They examined citation trends of the selected publications and performed bibliometric analysis using VOSviewer. Cooccurrence and cocitation analysis were used to calculate the burst strength of the most cited keywords and the most cited publications.ResultsThis study included 1144 publications (1004 scientific research articles and 140 review articles) for bibliometric analysis. The number of publications from 2018 to 2023 was 404, accounting for 35% (404/1144) over the last 30 years. The annual citation count showed a gradual upward trend with a surge from 2018. The cooccurrence analysis classified the publications into four clusters which were in vitro studies, prevention, microbiology, and epidemiology. Cocitation analysis revealed silver diamine fluoride, systematic review, and randomized clinical trial were the three main keywords; and their citation burst strength (period) were 17.2 (2017-2023), 9.4 (2015-2023), and 6.9 (2018-2023), respectively. Noninvasive treatment of root caries (narrative review), aetiology of root caries (narrative review), and use of silver diamine fluoride in arresting root caries (clinical trial) were the topics (publication type) of the three most cited publications; and their burst strength (period) were 8.9 (2017-2020), 5.9 (2017-2021), and 4.7 (2015-2018), respectively.ConclusionThis study highlights the recent growing research interest in root caries, particularly on its microbiology, prevention, and the use of silver diamine fluoride.

Project description:BackgroundPreconditioning is a promising strategy against ischemic brain injury, and numerous studies in vitro and in vivo have demonstrated its neuroprotective effects. However, at present there is no bibliometric analysis of preconditioning in cerebral ischemia. Therefore, a comprehensive overview of the current status, hot spots, and emerging trends in this research field is necessary.Materials and methodsStudies on preconditioning in cerebral ischemia from January 1999-December 2022 were retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection (WOSCC) database. CiteSpace was used for data mining and visual analysis.ResultsA total of 1738 papers on preconditioning in cerebral ischemia were included in the study. The annual publications showed an upwards and then downwards trend but currently remain high in terms of annual publications. The US was the leading country, followed by China, the most active country in recent years. Capital Medical University published the largest number of articles. Perez-Pinzon, Miguel A contributed the most publications, while KITAGAWA K was the most cited author. The focus of the study covered three areas: (1) relevant diseases and experimental models, (2) types of preconditioning and stimuli, and (3) mechanisms of ischemic tolerance. Remote ischemic preconditioning, preconditioning of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs), and inflammation are the frontiers of research in this field.ConclusionOur study provides a visual and scientific overview of research on preconditioning in cerebral ischemia, providing valuable information and new directions for researchers.

Project description:BackgroundDysphagia is a common complication of stroke that can result in serious consequences. In recent years, more and more papers on post-stroke dysphagia have been published in various journals. However, there is still a lack of bibliometric analysis of post-stroke dysphagia. This study visually analyzes the global research situation of post-stroke dysphagia from 2013 to 2022, aiming to explore the current research status, frontier trends, and research hotspots in this field.MethodsArticles and reviews relevant to post-stroke dysphagia were obtained and retrieved from the Web of Science core collection database in the last 10 years (from 2013 to 2022). CiteSpace and Microsoft Excel 2019 were used for bibliographic analysis.ResultsA total of 1,447 articles were included in the analysis. The number of publications showed an overall upward trend, from 72 in 2013 to 262 in 2022. The most influential authors, institutions, journals, and countries were Hamdy S, University of London, Dysphagia, and the People's Republic of China. An analysis of keywords and the literature indicated that current studies in the field of post-stroke dysphagia focused on dysphagia and aspiration, dysphagia classification, dysphagia rehabilitation, and daily living.ConclusionThis bibliometric analysis reveals the latest advancements and emerging trends in the field of post-stroke dysphagia, spanning the years 2013 to 2022. It highlights the paramount importance of conducting large-scale randomized controlled trials examining the efficacy of dysphagia screening protocols and non-invasive intervention techniques in improving the quality of life for these patients. Such research efforts hold significant academic implications for the development of evidence-based treatment strategies in this field.

Project description:The gut microbiota is widely regarded as a "metabolic organ" that could generate myriad metabolites to regulate human metabolism. As the microbiota metabolites, bile acids (BAs) have recently been identified as the critical endocrine molecules that mediate the cross-talk between the host and intestinal microbiota. This study provided a comprehensive insight into the gut microbiota and BA research through bibliometric analysis from 2003 to 2022. The publications on this subject showed a dramatic upward trend. Although the USA and China have produced the most publications, the USA plays a dominant role in this expanding field. Specifically, the University of Copenhagen was the most productive institution. Key research hotspots are the gut-liver axis, short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs), cardiovascular disease (CVD), colorectal cancer (CRC), and the farnesoid x receptor (FXR). The molecular mechanisms and potential applications of the gut microbiota and BAs in cardiometabolic disorders and gastrointestinal cancers have significant potential for further research.

Project description:BackgroundAs one of the most common complications of stroke, post-stroke pneumonia significantly increases the incidence of adverse outcomes, mortality, and healthcare costs for patients with stroke. As the field of post-stroke pneumonia has gained interest in the recent years, there has been an increasing number of publications on post-stroke pneumonia research worldwide. Therefore, a more comprehensive understanding of the field is needed now. This paper is intended to analyze the research status and detect the research frontiers in this field.MethodsVOS viewer, CiteSpace, and the online scientometric platform (https://bibliometric.com/) were the main visualization tools used in this paper. They were used to perform citation analysis of countries/institutions, co-citation analysis of authors/journals/references, co-authorship analysis of authors, co-occurrence analysis of keywords, and citation bursts analysis of references.ResultsThe number of publications in this field has increased rapidly since 2010 and is expected to continue to increase in the next few years. The countries contributing most to post-stroke pneumonia research were the USA, China, and Germany. The most productive institution was Harvard University, followed by Humboldt University of Berlin, Charité Universitätsmedizin Berlin, and Free University of Berlin from Germany. Meanwhile, the German authors Meisel A, Meisel C, and Dirnagl U, who have contributed significantly to this field, were all associated with these three German institutions. The high-quality and high output journal was STROKE. In the coming years, the hot topic keywords "risk & risk-factors," "outcome & impact," "management & guidelines," and "predictors" will gain more attention in this field. Finally, hot keywords were grouped into four clusters in this paper: cluster 1 (risk-factors studies of post-stroke pneumonia), cluster 2 (clinically relevant studies of post-stroke pneumonia), cluster 3 (mechanism studies of post-stroke pneumonia), and cluster 4 (care studies of post-stroke pneumonia).ConclusionThis study shows the knowledge structure and evolution of the field of post-stroke pneumonia research and predicts research trends through visualization analysis. The future trend of post-stroke pneumonia research will gradually shift from clinical and mechanistic studies to treatment and prevention studies.

Project description:BackgroundNeuroinflammation represents the immune response of the central nervous system to nerve injury, infection, toxin stimulation, or autoimmunity and is implicated in a wide range of neurological disorders. Viruses play a pivotal role as extrinsic biological drivers in neuroinflammation; however, numerous aspects remain unexplored. In this study, we employed bibliometric analysis to assess the current status of viral research in neuroinflammation and anticipate future research directions and emerging trends.MethodsConduct a comprehensive search for scholarly publications within the Web of Science Core Collection database, with search terms on neuroinflammation and virus. Apply Microsoft Excel Office, Hiplot, R (version 4.3.1), VOSviewer (version 1.6.20) and CiteSpace (6.2.R6, advanced) software for the bibliometric analysis and visualization.ResultsA total of 4230 articles and reviews on virus and neuroinflammation were identified, demonstrating a consistent upward trend over time. The United States was the country that contributed the most publications. Approximately 22274 authors from 4474 institutions contributed to the research. Johns Hopkins University leads with the highest number of publications and citations. The top three authors with the most published articles on this field are Power, C., Lane, T. E., and Buch, S. The Journal of Neuroinflammation is the most authoritative choice for researchers. The main research focuses in this field include multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease, blood-brain barrier, COVID-19, Alzheimer's disease, gene therapy. In recent years, stress have emerged as hot keywords, particularly depression, human immunodeficiency virus-associated neurocognitive disorders, blood-brain barrier, gut microbiota related directions, indicating a potential shift in research focus.ConclusionResearch on the virus and neuroinflammation has attracted increasing attention in the past decade. European and American countries have been pivotal in conducting research on virus and neuroinflammation, while China has produced a significant number of publications, its impact is still limited. Stress is likely to emerge as the next area of focus in this field. The association and regulation between viral infection and psychiatric disorders are not fully understood, and further research is needed to explore the role of neuroinflammation caused by different types of viral infection and psychiatric disorders.

Project description:Introduction: Network pharmacology has emerged as a forefront and hotspot in anti-cancer. Traditional anti-cancer drugs are limited by the paradigm of "one cancer, one target, one drug," making it difficult to address the challenges of recurrence and drug resistance. However, the main advantage of network pharmacology lies in its approach from the perspective of molecular network relationships, employing a "one arrow, multiple targets" strategy, which provides a novel pathway for developing anti-cancer drugs. This study employed a bibliometric analysis method to examine network pharmacology's application and research progress in cancer treatment from January 2008 to May 2023. This research will contribute to revealing its forefront and hotspots, offering new insights and methodologies for future investigations. Methods: We conducted a literature search on network pharmacology research in anti-cancer (NPART) from January 2008 to May 2023, utilizing scientific databases such as Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) and PubMed to retrieve relevant research articles and reviews. Additionally, we employed visualization tools such as Citespace, SCImago Graphica, and VOSviewer to perform bibliometric analysis. Results: This study encompassed 3,018 articles, with 2,210 articles from WoSCC and 808 from PubMed. Firstly, an analysis of the annual national publication trends and citation counts indicated that China and the United States are the primary contributing countries in this field. Secondly, the recent keyword analysis revealed emerging research hotspots in "tumor microenvironment," "anti-cancer drugs," and "traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). " Furthermore, the literature clustering analysis demonstrated that "calycosin," "molecular mechanism," "molecular docking," and "anti-cancer agents" were widely recognized research hotspots and forefront areas in 2023, garnering significant attention and citations in this field. Ultimately, we analyzed the application of NPART and the challenges. Conclusion: This study represents the first comprehensive analysis paper based on bibliometric methods, aiming to investigate the forefront hotspots of network pharmacology in anti-cancer research. The findings of this study will facilitate researchers in swiftly comprehending the current research trends and forefront hotspots in the domain of network pharmacology in cancer research.

Project description:Background and purposePathologic myopia (PM) is an international public health issue. This study aimed to analyze PM research trends by reporting on publication trends since 2000 and identifying influential journals, countries, authors, and keywords involved in PM.MethodsA bibliometric analysis was performed to evaluate global production and development trends in PM since 2000 and the keywords associated with PM.ResultsA total of 1,435 publications were retrieved. PM has become a fascinating topic (with relative research interest ranging from 0.0018% in 2000 to 0.0044% in 2021) and a global public health issue. The top three countries with the highest number of publications were China, the USA, and Japan. The journals, authors, and institutions that published the most relevant literature came from these three countries. China exhibited the most rapid increase in the number of publications (from 0 in 2000 to 69 in 2021). Retina published the most papers on PM. Kyoko Ohno-Matsui and Tokyo Medical and Dental University contributed the most publications among authors and institutions, respectively. Based on keyword analysis, previous research emphasized myopic choroidal neovascularization and treatment, while recent hotspots include PM changes based on multimodal imaging, treatment, and pathogenesis. Keyword analysis also revealed that deep learning was the latest hotspot and has been used for the detection of PM.ConclusionOur results can help researchers understand the current status and future trends of PM. China, the USA, and Japan have the greatest influence, based on the number of publications, top journals, authors, and institutions. Current research on PM highlights the pathogenesis and application of novel technologies, including multimodal imaging and artificial intelligence.
