Project description:Cepola schlegelii (Bleeker 1854) belongs to the genus Cepola in the family Cepolidae and order Priacanthiformes. The complete mitochondrial genome of C. schlegelii was sequenced and analyzed by a high-throughput sequencing approach. The full length of the genome is 17,020 bp, including 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 22 transfer RNA genes (tRNAs), two ribosomal RNA genes (rRNAs), and a non-coding control region (D-loop). Phylogenetic analysis based on complete mitochondrial genomes revealed that C. schlegelii was most closely related to Acanthocepola krusensternii. The complete mitochondrial sequence of C. schlegelii will enrich the mitochondrial genome database and provide useful resources for population genetics and evolution analyses.

Project description:Thalassiosira nordenskioeldii is a common harmful algal bloom (HAB) species with worldwide distribution. Although barcode sequences of this ecologically important species have been published, no genome data have been published for T. nordenskioeldii. In this study, we constructed the complete mitochondrial genome (mtDNA) of a T. nordenskioeldii strain isolated from the East China Sea. The T. nordenskioeldii mtDNA is circular and has a length of 47,038 bp and a GC content of 30.84%. The mtDNA encodes 69 genes, including 40 protein-coding (PCGs), 27 tRNA and two rRNA genes. Phylogenetic analysis using concatenated amino acid sequences of 31 shared PCGs from 37 diatom mtDNAs revealed that the mtDNA of T. nordenskioeldii was fully resolved in a clade with that of Thalassiosira profunda. The mtDNA of T. nordenskioeldii showed high collinearity with those of T. profunda and Skeletonema marinoi with only minor rearrangements. The completion of Thalassiosira mtDNAs will facilitate evolutionary studies on species of the order Thalassiosirales and the class Mediophyceae.
Project description:In this study, we determined the first complete mitochondrial genome sequence of Coscinasterias acutispina Stimpson, 1862. The mitogenome was 16,186 bp in length and contained 13 protein-coding genes, two ribosomal RNA genes, and 22 transfer RNA genes. The gene order and direction were identical to those of other asteroid starfish species. Phylogenetic analysis showed that C. acutispina was located at the basal position of Forcipulatida, belonging to the genus Coscinasterias within the family of Asteriidae.
Project description:In order to supply genetic information of Camellia sinensis cultivar Anhua, characterization of the complete chloroplast genome sequence was reported based on high-throughput sequencing data. The complete cp genome of C. sinensis cultivar Anhua is shorter than other C. sinensis cultivars with 157,025 bp in length, comprising a large single copy (LSC) region of 86,585 bp and a small single copy (SSC) region of 18,276 bp, separated by two inverted repeat regions (IRs) of 26,082 bp. The overall G + C content is 37.30%. The genome contained total of 135 genes, including 90 protein coding genes, 37 tRNA genes, and 8 rRNA genes. Phylogenetic analysis showed all the cultivars were clustered into a group except C. sinensis var. pubilimba.
Project description:We determined the complete mitochondrial genome of Metapenaeopsis dalei (Rathbun, 1902), which is collected from East China Sea (124°E and 33.5°N). Total mitochondrial genome length of M. dalei was 15 939 bp, in which 13 proteins, two ribosomal RNAs, 22 transfer RNAs and a putative control region were encoded. The gene arrangement of M. dalei was well conserved with nine known Penaeidae mitochondrial genomes from COX1 to tRNATyr . The protein-coding genes started with ATN except for COX1 in which ACG is used. Four genes (COX2, COX3, ND3 and ND5) exhibited an incomplete stop codon. Nucleotide sequence identity of M. dalei mitochondrial genome to those of nine Penaeidae species ranged from 78% to 80%. Based on the COI region, M. dalei is most closely related to Penaeus notialis.
Project description:The species Monoserius pennarius (Linnaeus, 1758), is particularly abundant in the tropical Indo-West Pacific east of Sri Lanka, yet very limited genetic information exists for this species. Here, we report the assembled-linear mitochondrial genome of M. pennarius collected from the East China Sea. The 15,197 bp mitogenome contains 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), two tRNA genes, and two rRNA genes. Notably, the gene order in this mitogenome differs from that of other hydrozoans within the same taxonomic order. Phylogenetic analysis, based on 13 concatenated mitochondrial PCGs, recovered M. pennarius as a sister of Nemalecium lighti (Hargitt, 1924), outside the other Leptothecata hydrozoans, suggesting paraphyly of Leptothecata. The mitogenome of M. pennarius, serving as the first publicly available for the family Aglaopheniidae, holds foreseeable value for investigating Leptothecata evolution.
Project description:Citrus sinensis is an important agricultural product with huge economic value. In this study, we report the complete mitochondrial (mt) genome sequence of Citrus sinensis for the first time. Our assembly of the Citrus sinensis mt genome resulted in a final sequence of 640,906 bp in length which contains 63 genes. Phylogenetic analysis showed that Citrus sinensis was closely related to Brassica napus and Arabidopsis thaliana, which also belong to malvids. The complete mt genome will facilitate further genetic studies of Citrus sinensis.
