Trends of Surgical Service Utilization for Lumbar Spinal Stenosis in South Korea: A 10-Year (2010-2019) Cross-Sectional Analysis of the Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service-National Patient Sample Data.

ABSTRACT: Background and Objectives: This retrospective, cross-sectional, and descriptive study used claims data from the Korean Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service (HIRA) between 2010 and 2019 to analyze the trend of surgical service utilization in patients with lumbar spinal stenosis (LSS). Materials and Methods: The national patient sample data provided by the HIRA, which consisted of a 2% sample of the entire Korean population, was used to assess all patients who underwent decompression or fusion surgery at least once in Korea, with LSS as the main diagnosis from January 2010 to December 2019.
