Silyl Tosylate Precursors to Cyclohexyne, 1,2-Cyclohexadiene, and 1,2-Cycloheptadiene.

Project description:Transient strained cyclic intermediates have become valuable intermediates in modern synthetic chemistry. Although silyl triflate precursors to strained intermediates are most often employed, the instability of some silyl triflates warrants the development of alternative precursors. We report the syntheses of silyl tosylate precursors to cyclohexyne, 1,2-cyclohexadiene, and 1,2-cycloheptadiene. The resultant strained intermediates undergo trapping in situ to give cycloaddition products. Additionally, the results of competition experiments between silyl triflates and silyl tosylates are reported.

Cu-Catalyzed Enantioselective Protoboration of 2,3-Disubstituted 1,3-Dienes.

Project description:A Cu-catalyzed regio- and enantioselective protoboration of 2,3-disubstituted 1,3-dienes is described. The protocol operates under mild conditions and is applicable to symmetrically and unsymmetrically substituted dienes, providing access to homoallylic boronates in consistently high yield, regioselectivity, and enantiomeric ratio. Preliminary investigations point to a complex mechanism.

Nickel-Catalyzed Stereoselective Arylboration of Unactivated Alkenes.

Project description:A Ni-catalyzed method for arylboration is disclosed. The method allows for highly stereoselective arylboration of unactivated alkenes. The reactions utilize a simple Ni-catalyst and work with a broad range of alkenes and aryl bromides. The products represent useful intermediates for chemical synthesis due to the versatility of the C-B bond. Preliminary mechanistic details of the method are also disclosed.

Copper-catalyzed defluorinative arylboration of vinylarenes with polyfluoroarenes.

Project description:An unprecedented but challenging defluorinative arylboration has been achieved. Enabled by a copper catalyst, an interesting procedure on defluorinative arylboration of styrenes has been established. With polyfluoroarenes as the substrates, this methodology offers flexible and facile access to provide a diverse assortment of products under mild reaction conditions. In addition, by using a chiral phosphine ligand, an enantioselective defluorinative arylboration was also realized, affording a set of chiral products with unprecedented levels of enantioselectivity.

Iridium-catalyzed C-C coupling via transfer hydrogenation: carbonyl addition from the alcohol or aldehyde oxidation level employing 1,3-cyclohexadiene.

Project description:Under hydrogen autotransfer conditions employing a catalyst derived from [Ir(cod)Cl]2 and BIPHEP, 1,3-cyclohexadiene (CHD) couples to benzylic alcohols 1a-9a to furnish carbonyl addition products 1c-9c, which appear as single diastereomers with variable quantities of regioisomeric adducts 1d-9d. Under related transfer hydrogenation conditions employing isopropanol as terminal reductant, identical carbonyl adducts 1c-9c are obtained from the aldehyde oxidation level. Isotopic labeling studies corroborate a mechanism involving hydrogen donation from the reactant alcohol or sacrificial alcohol (i-PrOH).

Synthesis of eunicellane-type bicycles embedding a 1,3-cyclohexadiene moiety.

Project description:The first synthesis of diterpenoid eunicellane skeletons incorporating a 1,3-cyclohexadiene moiety is presented. Key step is a low-valent titanium-induced pinacol cyclization that proved to be perfectly diastereoselective. Determination of the relative configuration of the diol was aided by the conversion to the diastereomer by oxidation and reduction. Conformational analysis of some of the resulting diols obtained under McMurry conditions was complicated by the presence of several conformers of similar energy. The pinacol coupling appears to start at the ketone, as indicated by the selective reduction of non-cyclizing cyclohexane systems that were synthesized from limonene oxide. The title compounds and their synthetic precursors are prone to aromatization on contact with air oxygen. Attempted synthesis of cyclohexene-containing eunicellane bicycles by elimination of water from tertiary alkynyl carbinols afforded novel allene systems. Our study may be of help towards the total synthesis of solenopodin or klysimplexin derivatives.

Ruthenium-Catalyzed Multicomponent Reactions: Access to α-Silyl-β-Hydroxy Vinylsilanes, Stereodefined 1,3-Dienes, and Cyclohexenes.

Project description:The synthesis of densly functionized α-silyl-β-hydroxyl vinylsilanes via ruthenium-catalyzed multicomponent reaction (MCR) is reported herein. Exceptionally high regio- and diastereoselectivity was achieved by employing an unprecedented hydrosilylation of bifunctional silyl-propargyl boronates. The simple protocol, mild reaction conditions, and unique tolerability of this method make it a valuable tool for the synthesis of highly elaborated building blocks. The one-pot synthesis of stereodefined olefins, the generation of a valuable cyclohexene building block through a four-component MCR, and further functionalization in an abundance of diastereoselective reactions is disclosed herein.

Stereocontrolled 1,3-phosphatyloxy and 1,3-halogen migration relay toward highly functionalized 1,3-dienes.

Project description:A double migratory cascade reaction of α-halogen-substituted propargylic phosphates to produce highly functionalized 1,3-dienes has been developed. This transformation features 1,3-phosphatyloxy group migration followed by 1,3-shifts of bromine and chlorine as well as the unprecedented 1,3-migration of iodine. The reaction is stereodivergent: (Z)-1,3-dienes are formed in the presence of a copper catalyst, whereas gold-catalyzed reactions exhibit inverted stereoselectivity, producing the corresponding E products.
