Four ruthenium complexes were used as catalysts for the N-methylation of amines using methanol as the C1 source under weak base conditions. The (DPEPhos)RuCl<sub>2</sub>PPh<sub>3</sub>(<b>1a</b>) catalyst showed the best catalytic performance (0.5 mol %, 12 h). The deuterium labeling and control experiments suggested the reaction via the Ru-H mechanism.
