The dataset is intended for developing machine learning algorithms for goat detection, with applications in precision agriculture, animal welfare, behaviour analysis, and animal husbandry. Project description:Occlusion of skin lesions in dermoscopic images due to hair affects the performance of computer-assisted lesion analysis algorithms. Lesion analysis can benefit from digital hair removal or realistic hair simulation techniques. To assist in that process, we have created the largest publicly available skin lesion hair segmentation mask dataset by carefully annotating 500 dermoscopic images. Compared to the existing datasets, our dataset is free of non-hair artifacts like ruler markers, bubbles, and ink marks. The dataset is also less prone to over and under segmentations because of fine-grained annotations and quality checks from multiple independent annotators. To create the dataset, first, we collected five hundred copyright-free CC0 licensed dermoscopic images covering different hair patterns. Second, we trained a deep learning hair segmentation model on a publicly available weakly annotated dataset. Third, we extracted hair masks for the selected five hundred images using the segmentation model. Finally, we manually corrected all the segmentation errors and verified the annotations by superimposing the annotated masks on top of the dermoscopic images. Multiple annotators were involved in the annotation and verification process to make the annotations as error-free as possible. The prepared dataset will be useful for benchmarking and training hair segmentation algorithms as well as creating realistic hair augmentation systems.

Project description:Precise, scalable, and quantitative evaluation of whole slide images is crucial in neuropathology. We release a deep learning model for rapid object detection and precise information on the identification, locality, and counts of cored plaques and cerebral amyloid angiopathies (CAAs). We trained this object detector using a repurposed image-tile dataset without any human-drawn bounding boxes. We evaluated the detector on a new manually-annotated dataset of whole slide images (WSIs) from three institutions, four staining procedures, and four human experts. The detector matched the cohort of neuropathology experts, achieving 0.64 (model) vs. 0.64 (cohort) average precision (AP) for cored plaques and 0.75 vs. 0.51 AP for CAAs at a 0.5 IOU threshold. It provided count and locality predictions that correlated with gold-standard CERAD-like WSI scoring (p=0.07± 0.10). The openly-available model can quickly score WSIs in minutes without a GPU on a standard workstation.

Project description:The Functional Movement Screen (FMS) is a critical tool for assessing an individual's basic motor abilities, aiming to prevent sports injuries. However, current automated FMS evaluation is based on deep learning methods, and the evaluation of actions is limited to rank scoring, which lacks fine-grained feedback suggestions and has poor interpretability. This limitation prevents the effective application of automated FMS evaluation for injury prevention and rehabilitation. We develop a fine-grained, hierarchical FMS dataset, LLM-FMS, derived from FMS videos and enriched with detailed, hierarchical action annotations. This dataset comprises 1812 action keyframe images from 45 subjects, encompassing 15 action representations of seven FMS actions. Each action includes a score, scoring criteria, and weight data for body parts. To our extensive knowledge, LLM-FMS is the first fine-grained fitness action dataset for action evaluation task. Additionally, a novel framework for action quality assessment based on large language models (LLMs) is proposed, designed to enhance the interpretability of FMS evaluations. Our method integrates expert rules, utilizes RTMPose to extract key skeletal-level action features from key frames, and inputs prompts into the LLM, enabling it to infer scores and provide detailed rationales. Experimental results demonstrate that our approach significantly outperforms existing methods while offering superior interpretability. Experimental results demonstrate that our approach outperforms existing methods in terms of accuracy and interpretability, with a substantial increase in the clarity and detail of the rationales provided. These findings highlight the potential of our framework for fine-grained action quality assessment with the aid of LLMs.

Project description:This paper aims to introduce our publicly available datasets in the area of tourism demand prediction for future experiments and comparisons. Most of the previous works in the area of tourism demand forecasting are based on coarse-grained analysis (level of countries or regions) and there are very few works and consequently datasets available for fine-grained tourism analysis (level of attractions and points of interest). In this article, we present our fine-grained enriched datasets for two types of attractions - (I) indoor attractions (27 Museums and Galleries in U.K.) and (II) outdoor attractions (76 U.S. National Parks) enriched with official number of visits, social media reviews and environmental data for each of them. In addition, the complete analysis of prediction results, methodology and exploited models, features' performance analysis, anomalies, etc, are available in our original paper, "Fine-grained tourism prediction: Impact of social and environmental features"[2].

Project description:Detailed and accurate urban landscape mapping, especially for urban blue-green-gray (UBGG) continuum, is the fundamental first step to understanding human-nature coupled urban systems. Nevertheless, the intricate spatial heterogeneity of urban landscapes within cities and across urban agglomerations presents challenges for large-scale and fine-grained mapping. In this study, we generated a 3 m high-resolution UBGG landscape dataset (UBGG-3m) for 36 Chinese metropolises using a transferable multi-scale high-resolution convolutional neural network and 336 Planet images. To train the network for generalization, we also created a large-volume UBGG landscape sample dataset (UBGGset) covering 2,272 km2 of urban landscape samples at 3 m resolution. The classification results for five cities across diverse geographic regions substantiate the superior accuracy of UBGG-3m in both visual interpretation and quantitative evaluation (with an overall accuracy of 91.2% and FWIoU of 83.9%). Comparative analyses with existing datasets underscore the UBGG-3m's great capability to depict urban landscape heterogeneity, providing a wealth of new data and valuable insights into the complex and dynamic urban environments in Chinese metropolises.

Project description:Emotion recognition is a crucial task in Natural Language Processing (NLP) that enables machines to comprehend the feelings conveyed in the text. The task involves detecting and recognizing various human emotions like anger, fear, joy, and sadness. The applications of emotion recognition are diverse, including mental health diagnosis, student support, and the detection of online suspicious behavior. Despite the substantial amount of literature available on emotion recognition in various languages, Arabic emotion recognition has received relatively little attention, leading to a scarcity of emotion-annotated corpora. This article presents the ArPanEmo dataset, a novel dataset for fine-grained emotion recognition of online posts in Arabic. The dataset comprises 11,128 online posts manually labeled for ten emotion categories or neutral, with Fleiss' kappa of 0.71. It is unique in that it focuses on the Saudi dialect and addresses topics related to the COVID-19 pandemic, making it the first and largest of its kind. Python's packages were utilized to collect online posts related to the COVID-19 pandemic from three sources: Twitter, YouTube, and online newspaper comments between March 2020 and March 2022. Upon collection of the online posts, each one underwent a semi-automatic classification process using a lexicon of emotion-related terms to determine whether it belonged to the neutral or emotion category. Subsequently, manual labeling was conducted to further categorize the emotional data into fine-grained emotion categories. We anticipate that the ArPanEmo dataset will enrich Arabic NLP resources and help in the development of machine learning and deep learning tools to identify emotions in a given text. It will also contribute to developing systems that monitor online suspicious behaviors or mental health disorders. The final dataset is formatted in CSV, consisting of three columns: the number of the post, the post's text, and the corresponding emotion label. This format facilitates incorporating and utilizing the dataset in any machine learning research.

Project description:Since the inception of the current COVID-19 pandemic, related misleading information has spread at a remarkable rate on social media, leading to serious implications for individuals and societies. Although COVID-19 looks to be ending for most places after the sharp shock of Omicron, severe new variants can emerge and cause new waves, especially if the variants can evade the insufficient immunity provided by prior infection and incomplete vaccination. Fighting the fake news that promotes vaccine hesitancy, for instance, is crucial for the success of the global vaccination programs and thus achieving herd immunity. To combat the proliferation of COVID-19-related misinformation, considerable research efforts have been and are still being dedicated to building and sharing COVID-19 misinformation detection datasets and models for Arabic and other languages. However, most of these datasets provide binary (true/false) misinformation classifications. Besides, the few studies that support multi-class misinformation classification deal with a small set of misinformation classes or mix them with situational information classes. False news stories about COVID-19 are not equal; some tend to have more sinister effects than others (e.g., fake cures and false vaccine info). This suggests that identifying the sub-type of misinformation is critical for choosing the suitable action based on their level of seriousness, ranging from assigning warning labels to the susceptible post to removing the misleading post instantly. We develop comprehensive annotation guidelines in this work that define 19 fine-grained misinformation classes. Then, we release the first Arabic COVID-19-related misinformation dataset comprising about 6.7K tweets with multi-class and multi-label misinformation annotations. In addition, we release a version of the dataset to be the first Twitter Arabic dataset annotated exclusively with six different situational information classes. Identifying situational information (e.g., caution, help-seeking) helps authorities or individuals understand the situation during emergencies. To confirm the validity of the collected data, we define three classification tasks and experiment with various machine learning and transformer-based classifiers to offer baseline results for future research. The experimental results indicate the quality and validity of the data and its suitability for constructing misinformation and situational information classification models. The results also demonstrate the superiority of AraBERT-COV19, a transformer-based model pretrained on COVID-19-related tweets, with micro-averaged F-scores of 81.6% and 78.8% for the multi-class misinformation and situational information classification tasks, respectively. Label Powerset with linear SVC achieved the best performance among the presented methods for multi-label misinformation classification with micro-averaged F-scores of 76.69%.

Project description:The energy landscape of biomolecular systems contains many local minima that are separated by high energy barriers. Sampling this landscape in molecular dynamics simulations is a challenging task and often requires the use of enhanced sampling techniques. Here, we increase the sampling efficiency by coupling the fine-grained (FG) GROMOS force field to the coarse-grained (CG) Martini force field via the Hamiltonian replica exchange method (HREM). We tested the efficiency of this procedure using a lutein/octane system. In traditional simulations, cis-trans transitions of lutein are barely observed due to the high energy barrier separating these states. However, many of these transitions are sampled with our HREM scheme. The proposed method offers new possibilities for enhanced sampling of biomolecular conformations, making use of CG models without compromising the accuracy of the FG model.

Project description:In spite of its acoustic diversity, the speech signal presents statistical regularities that can be exploited by biological or artificial systems for efficient coding. Independent Component Analysis (ICA) revealed that on small time scales (∼ 10 ms), the overall structure of speech is well captured by a time-frequency representation whose frequency selectivity follows the same power law in the high frequency range 1-8 kHz as cochlear frequency selectivity in mammals. Variations in the power-law exponent, i.e. different time-frequency trade-offs, have been shown to provide additional adaptation to phonetic categories. Here, we adopt a parametric approach to investigate the variations of the exponent at a finer level of speech. The estimation procedure is based on a measure that reflects the sparsity of decompositions in a set of Gabor dictionaries whose atoms are Gaussian-modulated sinusoids. We examine the variations of the exponent associated with the best decomposition, first at the level of phonemes, then at an intra-phonemic level. We show that this analysis offers a rich interpretation of the fine-grained statistical structure of speech, and that the exponent values can be related to key acoustic properties. Two main results are: i) for plosives, the exponent is lowered by the release bursts, concealing higher values during the opening phases; ii) for vowels, the exponent is bound to formant bandwidths and decreases with the degree of acoustic radiation at the lips. This work further suggests that an efficient coding strategy is to reduce frequency selectivity with sound intensity level, congruent with the nonlinear behavior of cochlear filtering.
