Selenoprotein P (SeP) is a major selenoprotein in serum predominantly produced in the liver. Excess SeP impairs insulin secretion from the pancreas and insulin sensitivity in skeletal muscle, thus inhibition of SeP could be a therapeutic strategy for type 2 diabetes.
