Sanwei sandalwood decoction improves function of the gut microbiota in heart failure.

ABSTRACT:

Objective

To investigate the effects of Sanwei sandalwood decoction on improving function of the intestinal flora in doxorubicin-induced heart failure in rats.

Materials and methods

Thirty Sprague-Dawley rats were screened and randomly assigned into a blank group, a model group, and a Sanwei sandalwood decoction group (treatment group). The rat model of heart failure was prepared and established in the latter two groups. After successful model establishment, the treatment group received Sanwei sandalwood decoction by continuous gavage at 2 g/kg, once daily for 4 weeks. The other groups were given an equivalent volume of saline.
