Project description:Objective Mucositis is one of the most feared side effects of cancer treatment. Psychometric analysis of a patient self-assessment score, the oral mucositis daily questionnaire in Malay (OMDQ-Mal) and its construct validity by means of confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) is lacking. This research aimed to test the validity and reliability of OMDQ-Mal. Methods A total of 114 autologous stem-cell transplantation patients aged ≥ 18 years old at a national hematology center in Malaysia from April 2019 to December 2020 completed OMDQ-Mal concurrently with physician scores. Internal consistency and reproducibility were determined by Cronbach alpha and intraclass correlation coefficient, respectively. Correlations with physician scores were determined by Spearman correlation. Discriminative validity and construct validity were determined by Mann–Whitney U and CFA, respectively. Results OMDQ-Mal demonstrated high internal consistency (α = 0.874). Test–retest reliability between paired days were moderate to excellent (95% CI = 0.676–0.953). Items in OMDQ-Mal had moderate to strong correlations with physician scores (ρ = 0.503–0.721). Discriminative validity indicated that the scores of scales were significantly different between participants with severe and mild conditions. Construct validity results of loading factors 0.708–0.952; composite reliability 0.879–0.974; average variant extracted 0.710–0.841; and heterotrait–monotrait ratio 0.528 established the convergent and divergent validity. Conclusions In conclusion, the OMDQ-Mal, which captured important quality of life responses, demonstrated adequate validity and reliability. This was supported by a two-component model CFA. The strong correlation of OMDQ-Mal with both physician scores indicated its potential as a comprehensive patient-reported outcome measure of mucositis of the entire alimentary tract.

Project description:ObjectivesThis study aimed to translate and adapt the Malocclusion Impact Questionnaire (MIQ) into Finnish; to estimate its psychometric properties when applied to Finnish adolescents; and to estimate the effect of demographic characteristics on the perceived impact of malocclusion.MethodsThe Finnish version of MIQ (MIQ-Fi) was established through translation, back-translation, and a pilot study. Psychometric properties were estimated using factorial validity (confirmatory factor analysis [CFA]), convergent validity (Average Variance Extracted [AVE]), and reliability (αordinal and ω). Structural Equation Model estimated the effect of demographic characteristics on malocclusion impact.ResultsA total of 268 Finnish adolescents participated in the study (mean age = 13.4 [standard deviation, SD = 1.5] years, 48.5% girls). MIQ-Fi factor model presented an adequate fit to the data after refinements (CFA: comparative fit index [CFI] = 0.96, Tucker-Lewis index [TLI] = 0.95, standardized root mean square residual [SRMR] = 0.08, exclusion of 4 items and 1 correlation between items error). Convergent validity (AVE = 0.61) and reliability (αordinal and ω ≥ 0.90) were adequate. Gender and self-reported need for orthodontic treatment had moderate effects on malocclusion impact (βstandardized = 0.36 and 0.30, respectively, p < 0.01), while other demographic characteristics had weak effects (βstandardized < |0.18|, p < 0.04).ConclusionMIQ-Fi demonstrated adequate psychometric properties and can measure malocclusion impact in Finnish adolescents. Demographic characteristics had weak to moderate effect on the malocclusion impact.

Project description:BACKGROUND:A mobile app is a programmed system designed to be used by a target user on a mobile device. The usability of such a system refers not only to the extent to which product can be used to achieve the task that it was designed for, but also its effectiveness and efficiency, as well as user satisfaction. The System Usability Scale is one of the most commonly used questionnaires used to assess the usability of a system. The original 10-item version of System Usability Scale was developed in English and thus needs to be adapted into local languages to assess the usability of a mobile apps developed in other languages. OBJECTIVE:The aim of this study is to translate and validate (with cross-cultural adaptation) the English System Usability Scale questionnaire into Malay, the main language spoken in Malaysia. The development of a translated version will allow the usability of mobile apps to be assessed in Malay. METHODS:Forward and backward translation of the questionnaire was conducted by groups of Malay native speakers who spoke English as their second language. The final version was obtained after reconciliation and cross-cultural adaptation. The content of the Malay System Usability Scale questionnaire for mobile apps was validated by 10 experts in mobile app development. The efficacy of the questionnaire was further probed by testing the face validity on 10 mobile phone users, followed by reliability testing involving 54 mobile phone users. RESULTS:The content validity index was determined to be 0.91, indicating good relevancy of the 10 items used to assess the usability of a mobile app. Calculation of the face validity index resulted in a value of 0.94, therefore indicating that the questionnaire was easily understood by the users. Reliability testing showed a Cronbach alpha value of .85 (95% CI 0.79-0.91) indicating that the translated System Usability Scale questionnaire is a reliable tool for the assessment of usability of a mobile app. CONCLUSIONS:The Malay System Usability Scale questionnaire is a valid and reliable tool to assess the usability of mobile app in Malaysia.

Project description:The psychometric properties of the Malay Suicidal Behaviors Questionnaire-Revised (SBQ-R) need to be tested as it is increasingly utilized, and there is a lack of a brief, validated scale to examine suicidal behaviors in Malaysia. A total of 713 and 715 undergraduates answered the English and Malay SBQ-R, respectively. Exploratory factor analysis derived a one-factor solution, with a total explained variance of 58.0% accounted for by the four items. Confirmatory factor analyses supported the one-factor model for the Malay SBQ-R, with acceptable fit indices (χ2/df = 0.451, comparative and Tucker-Lewis fit indices = ≥1.000, standardized root mean square residual = 0.014, root mean square error of approximation = 0.000, and 90% CI [0.000, 0.083]). Measurement invariance was achieved when comparing the SBQ-R between the English and Malay versions, indicating that both versions are similar in Malaysian undergraduates. Convergent validity was established through a strong correlation between the Malay SBQ-R and the Malay Yatt Suicide Attitude Scale (r = 0.74; p < 0.001). Good internal consistency was achieved for both the English (α = 0.83; ω = 0.85) and Malay (α = 0.81; ω = 0.84) versions. The Malay SBQ-R has adequate validity and reliability for use in Malaysian undergraduates.

Project description:BackgroundThe present study aimed at validating the Malay-language version of the Behavioural Regulation in Exercise Questionnaire (BREQ-3M) using confirmatory factor analysis (CFA).MethodsData were collected from undergraduate students in the Health Campus, Universiti Sains Malaysia. A total of 674 students completed the BREQ-3M (male: 19.4%, female: 80.6%), with a mean age of 20.27 years (SD = 1.35). Behavioural regulation was assessed with the 24-item BREQ-3M. Standard forward-backward translation was performed to translate the English version of BREQ-3 into the Malay version.ResultsThe initial measurement models tested did not result in a good fit for the data. Subsequent examination of the CFA results suggested some modifications, including adding correlations between the item residuals within the same subscale and deletion of identified regulation. These modifications resulted in good fit indices (Root Mean Square Error of Approximation, RMSEA = 0.049; Comparative Fit Index, CFI = 0.949; Tucker-Lewis Index, TLI = 0.938; Standardised Root Mean Square Residual, SRMR = 0.049). The final measurement model comprised 20 items and had significant factor loadings of more than 0.50, ranging from 0.580 to 0.868. The composite reliability ranged between 0.746-0.841 for the five-factor model.ConclusionsThe 20-item translated version of BREQ-3M is valid and reliable for assessing the behavioural regulation for exercise among university students in Malaysia.PerspectiveThis study examined the psychometric properties of the Malay-language BREQ-3. It was the first to assess the measurement model in Malaysia using CFA.

Project description:ObjectivesAcceptance and action questionnaire (AAQ II) is a scale used to assess psychological inflexibility. The aim of this study is to translate AAQ II into Malay language and evaluate the psychometric properties of AAQ II Malay version.MethodsThe AAQ II which has been translated into Malay language via back translation procedure was distributed to 101 cancer patients and 100 non-cancer patients. The evaluation of psychometric properties in this study included content validity index, internal consistency, parallel reliability, exploratory factor analysis, concurrent validity, sensitivity and specificity of AAQ II Malay version.ResultsAAQ II Malay version has established good content validity index, acceptable internal consistency with Cronbach's alpha value of 0.91, excellent parallel reliability and adequate concurrent validity. Exploratory factor analysis (EFA) results demonstrated AAQ II Malay version is a unidimensional factor instrument. The result of sensitivity and specificity of AAQ II Malay version indicated cancer patients who scored more than 17.5 were having significant psychological inflexibility.ConclusionAAQ II Malay version is a reliable and valid instrument to measure psychological inflexibility among cancer patient in Malaysia.

Project description:BackgroundThe EuroQol-5 Dimension (EQ-5D) is a generic self-administered questionnaire used for the measurement and economic valuation of a wide range of health conditions, which necessitates its existence and adaptation in different languages. Currently, the tool does not exist in any Nigerian language. This study aimed to translate, cross-culturally adapt, and determine the reliability and validity of the Yoruba version of the EQ-5D-5L questionnaire.MethodsThe International Quality of Life Assessment (IQOLA) project guidelines, involving forward translation, reconciliation and harmonization, backward translation, and reconciliation of problematic items were used in the Yoruba translated version of the EQ-5D-5L (EQ-5D-Yor). A total of 113 and 109 persons with musculoskeletal disorders participated in the validity and 7-day test-retest reliability testing of the EQ-5D-Yor. Convergent and discriminant validity of the EQ-5D-Yor were determined using the Yoruba version of the 12-Item Short-Form Health Survey (SF-12) (SF-12-Y) and Visual Analog Scale (VAS). Data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics of Spearman correlation, Intra-Class Correlation, Cronbach alpha, and multi-trait scaling analysis. Alpha level was set as p < 0.05.ResultsThe construct validity of the EQ-5D-Yor yielded Spearman rho ranging from 0.438 to 1.000, with the EQ-VAS having the highest co-efficient (r = 1.000; p = 0.001). The convergent validity of the EQ-5D-Yor index with scales and domains of the SF-12-Y yielded no significant correlations (p < 0.05), except for the physical functioning scale (r = -0.709, p = 0.001). On the other hand, the divergent validity of the EQ-5D-Yor index with VAS yielded a moderate negative correlation (r = -0.482; p = 0.001). The Intra-class Correlation Coefficient (ICC) and Cronbach's alpha for the test-retest reliability of the EQ-5D-Yor were 1.000 and 0.968. The confirmatory factor analysis showed the factor loadings were poor when including VAS in the model.ConclusionThe EQ-5D-Yor has acceptable validity and reliability and can be used as a valid tool among Yoruba speaking population with musculoskeletal disorders.

Project description:Concerns about the health and safety of working populations as well as preventive actions to reduce heat-related illnesses and fatalities have intensified as global warming and heatwaves continue to rise as a result of climate change. This study aimed to translate and culturally-adapted the translated Malay version of the Heat Strain Score Index (HSSI) questionnaire so that it can be utilized as a screening tool for heat stress among the Malay-speaking outdoor workers. The original English version of HSSI underwent forward-backward translation and was cross-culturally adapted into the Malay language by bilingual translators based on established guidelines. The content validation was reviewed by a six-member expert committee including the representative of outdoor workers. Face validation was carried out among 10 outdoor workers involved with various work tasks. Psychometric analysis was conducted based on a cross-sectional study among 188 workers who were eligible. Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) was used for construct validity while internal consistency reliability was performed using Cronbach's alpha. The interclass correlation coefficient (ICC) was used to calculate the test-retest reliability. Both content and face validity were acceptable with the overall content validity index being 1.00, while the universal face validity index was 0.83. The factor analysis using varimax rotation extracted four factors which explained 56.32% of the cumulative percentage of variance and factor loading ranging from 0.415 to 0.804. The internal consistency reliability was acceptable with Cronbach's alpha ranging from 0.705 to 0.758 for all the factors. The overall ICC value was 0.792 (95% CI; 0.764-0.801) which signifies good reliability. The findings from this study indicate that the Malay version of HSSI is a reliable and culturally-adapted instrument. Further validation is needed so that it can be used extensively assess the heat stress among susceptible Malay-speaking outdoor workers in Malaysia who are exposed to hot humid environments.

Project description:Abstract Background Peyronie’s disease has an impact on men’s mental and physical health. Aim We sought to translate the Peyronie’s Disease Questionnaire into Danish, adapt it to the Danish cultural setting, and test it in a Danish population. Methods Translation of the Peyronie’s Disease Questionnaire was performed according to the guidelines for adapting health status measures for use in languages other than the source language by Beaton et al. The validated American Peyronie’s Disease Questionnaire was developed to monitor patient symptoms after an intervention and to inspire a subsequent dialogue about physical and psychological symptoms with a healthcare provider, thereby allowing the patient and the healthcare professional to choose the best treatment. The expert committee agreed on a Danish version after cross-cultural adaptation. The Danish Peyronie’s Disease Questionnaire was sent by electronic mail to a preselected group of 41 men with Peyronie’s disease. Outcomes After completing the questionnaire, 32 men participated in a video interview regarding the questionnaire and were asked to identify any problematic fields or areas open to misunderstanding. Results The Peyronie’s Disease Questionnaire underwent major modifications in light of the comments of the first 10 respondents. Thereafter, only minor changes were made until data saturation was reached after 27 of the 32 respondents had been interviewed. In 87% of respondents Peyronie’s disease bothered from the last time they had intercourse, and 93% of the men experienced being bothered by having intercourse less often. Peyronie’s disease made 73% of respondents feel bodily discomfort, and 88% had intercourse less often than they used to have due to Peyronie’s disease. Clinical Implications The Peyronie’s Disease Questionnaire is a valuable tool in the crucial task of addressing Peyronie’s disease, providing insight into the mental and sexual health problems as well as physical challenges faced by patients. Strengths and Limitations The interviewer’s modest experience in conducting interviews is believed to have been duly compensated for by continuous and accumulating learning-while-doing process because the same interviewer conducted all of the interviews and did so consecutively. Conclusions Danish men expressed satisfaction with the questionnaire and found it valuable as a tool when visiting the doctor for the first time.

Project description:BackgroundHealth-promoting behaviour is an important concept for health education. Unfortunately, there is a dearth of validated instruments to measure levels of health-promoting behaviour in the Malaysian context. The purpose of this study was to validate a Malay-language version of the Health-Promoting Lifestyle Profile II (HPLP-II) using a confirmatory approach.MethodsParticipants were 997 university undergraduate students, with a mean age of 21 years (SD = 1.58). The majority of the participants (80.4%) were female. Health-promoting behaviour was assessed using the 52-item HPLP-II, which measures six components of health-promoting behaviour outcomes. HPLP-II was translated into the Malay language using standard forward and backward translation procedures. Participants then completed the HPLP-II Malay version (HPLP-II-M). Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was conducted using Mplus 8.0 software on the six domains of HPLP-II-M model.ResultsThe CFA result based on the hypothesised measurement model of six factors was aligned with the original HPLP-II, except for two low loading items which were subsequently removed from the CFA analysis. The final CFA measurement model with 50 items resulted in a good fit to the data based on RMSEA and SRMR fit indices (RMSEA = 0.046, 90%CI = 0.045, 0.048, SRMR = 0.062). The construct reliabilities for the HPLP-II-M subscales were acceptable, ranging from 0.737 to 0.878.ConclusionThe HPLP-II-M with six components of health-promoting behaviour outcomes and 50 items was considered valid and reliable for the present Malaysian sample.
