Both prokaryotic and eukaryotic RNAs can be 5′-capped by the metabolite nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD). Nudix hydrolases, such as bacterial NudC, specifically remove NAD-caps; however, the molecular and cellular functions of these epitranscriptomic modulators remain elusive.
