Resilience and recovery in neurosurgical residency: Unpacking lessons from video game mechanics.

ABSTRACT:

Introduction

Neurosurgical residency is a challenging journey demanding cognitive acuity and resilience, mirrored strikingly in the dynamics of video gaming. Gaming concepts of Down-But-Not-Out (DBNO), Heal-over-Time (HoT), and Damage-over-Time (DoT) can serve as compelling analogues to elements of neurosurgical training.

Material and methods

An innovative, cross-disciplinary methodology was implemented, blending elements of autoethnography, personal reflective narrative, and comprehensive literary review.
