A new cave-dwelling species of Hahnia C. L. Koch, 1841 from Guizhou Province, China (Araneae, Hahniidae).

ABSTRACT:

Background

Hahnia, the most species-diversity genus of the comb-tailed spider family Hahniidae Bertkau, 1878, compromises 102 species distributed worldwide. To date, 24 species have been recorded from China.

New information

A new species of the genus Hahnia C. L. Koch, 1841 is described, based on both sexes from Shanyang Cave of Guizhou Province, China and is named H.jiangkou sp. nov. Diagnostic photos of habitus and copulatory organs, as well as a distributional map, are provided.

Project description:A remarkable aphaenopsian beetle, a sympatric species of Qianotrechus tenuicollis Uéno, 2000, was newly discovered in Cave Mahuang Dong of Shuanghe Dong cave system, the longest cave system of China in Suiyang County, northern Guizhou Province. To categorize this striking but still unknown species, a new genus and species are proposed: Shuangheaphaenops elegansgen. n., sp. n. Relationships of Shuangheaphaenops and other highly modified aphaenopsian genera from southern China Karsts are discussed.

Project description:We diagnose and describe three new species of the primitively segmented spider genus Songthela from Guizhou Province, China, based on morphological characters and molecular data: S. liui sp. nov. (♂♀), S. tianzhu sp. nov. (♂♀), and S. yuping sp. nov. (♂♀). We provide the genetic distances within and among the three new species based on the DNA barcode gene, cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI) to support our descriptions. We also provide the COI GenBank accession codes for the three new species for future identification.

Project description:Four new troglomorphic pseudotyrannochthoniid pseudoscorpion species collected from karst caves in Guizhou Province are described with detailed diagnoses and illustrations: Allochthoniusbainiensis sp. nov. from Liangfeng Cave (Xishui County), Allochthoniuspandus sp. nov. from Daozuo Cave (Xishui County), Allochthoniusxinqiaoensis sp. nov. from Sanjie Cave (Fenggang County), and Spelaeochthoniuswulibeiensis sp. nov. from Wulibei Cave (Weining County). Spelaeochthoniuswulibeiensis sp. nov. represents the first record of the genus in China. The diagnostic features of these four new cave-adapted (troglomorphic) species are presented and discussed, as well as compared with closely related species. The data on their distribution, habitat and ecology of the species are also given.

Three new asexual <i>Kirschsteiniothelia</i> species from Guizhou Province, China.

Project description:During our investigation of saprobic fungi in southwestern China, three micro-hyphomycetous fungi were isolated from dead wood in freshwater and terrestrial habitats in Guizhou Province. Phylogenetic analyses of ITS, LSU, and SSU sequences, performed using Maximum Likelihood and Bayesian Inference methods, confirmed that these isolates belong to Kirschsteiniothelia. Based on distinct morphological characteristics and molecular phylogenetic evidence, we describe three new species: Kirschsteiniotheliaguizhouensis, K.weiningensis, and K.xishuiensis. Furthermore, the effectiveness of three DNA markers for species-level identification within Kirschsteiniothelia was evaluated using Assemble Species by Automatic Partitioning (ASAP) analysis, which identified the ITS nucleotide sequences as the most reliable marker for species differentiation within the genus.
