Meeting report of the seventh annual Tri-Service Microbiome Consortium Symposium.

Project description:The Tri-Service Microbiome Consortium (TSMC) was founded to enhance collaboration, coordination, and communication of microbiome research among DoD organizations and to facilitate resource, material and information sharing among consortium members, which includes collaborators in academia and industry. The 2023 annual symposium was a hybrid meeting held in Washington DC on 26-27 September 2023 concurrent with the virtual attendance, with oral and poster presentations and discussions centered on microbiome-related topics within five broad thematic areas: 1) Environmental Microbiome Characterization; 2) Microbiome Analysis; 3) Human Microbiome Characterization; 4) Microbiome Engineering; and 5) In Vitro and In Vivo Microbiome Models. Collectively, the symposium provided an update on the scope of current DoD and DoD-affiliated microbiome research efforts and fostered collaborative opportunities. This report summarizes the presentations and outcomes of the 7th annual TSMC symposium.

The 6th Annual TSMC Symposium was a hybrid meeting held in Fairlee, Vermont on 27-28 September 2022 with presentations and discussions centered on microbiome-related topics within seven broad thematic areas: (1) Human Microbiomes: Stress Response; (2) Microbiome Analysis & Surveillance; (3) Human Microbiomes Enablers & Engineering; (4) Human Microbiomes: Countermeasures; (5) Human Microbiomes Discovery - Earth & Space; (6) Environmental Micro & Myco-biome; and (7) Environmental Microbiome Analysis & Engineering. Collectively, the symposium provided an update on the scope of current DoD microbiome research efforts, highlighted innovative research being done in academia and industry that can be leveraged by the DoD, and fostered collaborative opportunities. This report summarizes the activities and outcomes from the 6th annual TSMC symposium.

"French Phage Network" annual conference-eighth meeting report.

Project description:The French Phage Network organizes a scientific meeting every year in which the community of researchers from academia and industry, as well as clinicians participate due to the growing interest in phage therapy. Although centered on giving exposure to future generations of scientists from the French community with senior investigators invited as main speakers, the meeting has also welcomed participants from other countries. Covering almost every aspect of bacteriophage biology, the meeting is an opportunity not only to expose the youngest to a broad range of topics, but also to share their most recent "work in progress" without undergoing a stringent selection process to obtain an oral presentation slot. This report reflects the dynamism of the research field on bacteriophages across multiple disciplines, including molecular and structural biology, ecology, evolution, therapy, and biotechnology.

"French Phage Network" Annual Conference-Seventh Meeting Report.

Project description:The French Phage Network (Phages.fr) has continuously grown since its foundation, eight years ago. The annual conference, held at the Institut Pasteur in Paris, attracted 164 participants from the 11th to the 13th of October 2022. Researchers from academic laboratories, hospitals and private companies shared their ongoing projects and breakthroughs in the very institute where Felix d'Hérelle developed phage therapy over a century ago. The conference was divided into four thematic sessions, each opened by a keynote lecture: "Interaction between phages, mobile genetic elements and bacterial immune system," "Ecology and evolution of phage-bacteria interactions," "Molecular interplay between phages and their hosts" and "Therapeutic and biotechnological applications of phages." A total of 32 talks and 33 posters were presented during the conference.
