Chronic liver disease is not associated with statin prescription in a primary care cohort.

ABSTRACT: Statins have historically been underutilized in patients with chronic liver disease (CLD). We sought to investigate the association between CLD and statin prescription in a primary care setting. Our retrospective cohort study identified primary care patients with a low-density lipoprotein value and more than one office visit from 2012 through 2018. Indication for statin therapy was determined using the Third Adult Treatment Panel criteria prior to November 2016 and the American College of Cardiology and American Heart Association guidelines thereafter. Indication for statin prescription and statin therapy by year was determined. Patients with CLD were identified using ICD-9/10 diagnosis codes.
