<i>Mugil cephalus</i> Linnaeus, 1758 is a teleost fish widely distributed in coastal waters that plays an important role in commercial fisheries. In the present study, the complete mitogenome of <i>M. cephalus</i> from the Yellow Sea, China, was sequenced using Illumina Novaseq sequencing.
