Driving factors and micro-mechanism of residents' participation intention in individual pension system.

ABSTRACT: The introduction of an individual pension system is crucial to improve the current pension system in China. To increase the rate of participation of individuals in this new pension system and to give full play to its pension security effect, in this study, we built a conceptual model of participation intention of residents based on the theory of planned behavior considering seven new factors. Data were obtained through a questionnaire survey, and empirical tests and analyses were conducted using methods such as structural equation modeling. According to the results, 77.8 % of residents were willing to participate in the individual pension system. The internal driving factors such as perceived usefulness, trust, family burden and policy support directly influenced the residents' participation rate. Participation attitude was a key variable, with a partial mediating effect on participation intention. Thus, it is recommended to increase publicity and policy support, improve laws, regulations and the regulatory system, regulate market operations and enhance service quality for boosting residents' recognition and enthusiasm to participate and reducing their burden in old age.

Project description:Residents' participation is crucial for sustainable old neighborhood regeneration. Residents' intentions to participate in the regeneration are low in China, resulting in unsustainable neighborhood development problems. Therefore, it is essential to investigate the drivers of residents' participation. Residents' behavioral mechanisms are deeply embedded in their social networks, especially in acquaintance social networks typical of old neighborhoods in China. By constructing a mediated moderation model based on the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) and danwei system and taking the old neighborhood regeneration in Xi'an as a case study, this paper investigates the paths and mechanisms of the social network embeddedness, TPB, and danwei system on residents' participation intention. The results show that social network embeddedness can improve residents' intention to participate in regeneration through both direct and indirect pathways, and its indirect effect is much larger than the direct effect. Attitude, subjective norm, and perceived behavioral control significantly and positively mediated the contribution of social network embeddedness on participation intention. However, the specific mediating effect of attitude is significantly smaller than the other two. The danwei system has a significant moderating effect in the first stage of the relationship between social network embeddedness and participation intention. These imply that the extrinsic social factor of social network embeddedness is internalized as a driving force for convergence and motivation of residents' participation intentions mainly through the normative pressure and exchange of experiences between acquaintances and that the danwei system reinforces this extrinsic-intrinsic facilitation process through the danwei's "physical presence." These findings provide revelatory countermeasures for exploring the factors that motivate residents to participate actively in neighborhood regeneration and encourage their involvement at the intervention level.

Project description:BackgroundAs an application of inclusive finance in health insurance, inclusive commercial health insurance (ICHI) is a new public-private partnership-based health insurance scheme and has been vigorously promoted by the Chinese government in recent years to develop China Multi-level Health Insurance System, a system that aims to seek a mix of public and private sources to provide more affordable financial protection to all levels of society in line with their needs. However, the overall enrolment of ICHI scheme is still at a low level, and little is known about what influences residents' enrolment intentions. The aim of this study was to examine the multidimensional factors influencing residents' behavioral intentions and to develop a multivariate conceptual model to explore the psychographic process in the formation of enrolment intention.MethodsThe empirical data used for model validation were obtained from a cross-sectional study conducted in Nanjing, China, a representative pilot city of ICHI scheme in 2022. Exploratory factor analysis, ANOVA, standard multiple regression, and hierarchical multiple regression were mainly employed for hypothesis testing.ResultsThe findings revealed that involvement, perceived benefit, and perceived sacrifice are all crucial psychographic process factors in the formation of residents' enrolment intentions. Government participation positively moderates the influence path of "perceived benefit-enrolment intention" but negatively moderates the path of "perceived sacrifice-enrolment intention". Moreover, it was discovered that perceived benefit mediates the effect of involvement on enrolment intention, while perceived sacrifice does not.ConclusionsImproving residents' perceived benefit and involvement degree of the product, as well as reducing their perceived sacrifice, are both key to increasing their enrolment intentions. This study also points out that one of the main dilemmas in the current development of ICHI scheme is the low level of involvement among residents, and that optimizing the product design to make it more relevant to residents' lives is a more beneficial strategy to increase overall involvement.

Project description:BackgroundPoor quality of care in nursing homes (NHs) with high proportions of Black residents has been a problem in the US and even more pronounced during the COVID-19 pandemic. Federal and state agencies are devoting attention to identifying the best means of improving care in the neediest facilities. It is important to understand environmental and structural characteristics that may have led to poor healthcare outcomes in NHs serving high proportions of Black residents pre-pandemic.MethodsWe conducted a cross-sectional observational study using multiple 2019 national datasets. Our exposure was the proportion of Black residents in a NH (i.e., none, <5%, 5%-19.9%, 20-49.9%, ≥50%). Healthcare outcomes examined were hospitalizations and emergency department (ED) visits, both observed and risk-adjusted. Structural factors included staffing, ownership status, bed count (0-49, 50-149, or ≥150), chain organization membership, occupancy, and percent Medicaid as a payment source. Environmental factors included region and urbanicity. Descriptive and multivariable linear regression models were estimated.ResultsIn the 14,121 NHs, compared to NHs with no Black residents, NHs with ≥50% Black residents tended to be urban, for-profit, located in the South, have more Medicaid-funded residents, and have lower ratios of registered-nurse (RN) and aide hours per resident per day (HPRD) and greater ratios of licensed practical nurse HPRD. In general, as the proportion of Black residents in a NH increased, hospitalizations and ED visits also increased.Discussion/implicationsAs lower use of RNs has been associated with increased ED visits and hospitalizations in NHs generally, it is likely low RN use largely drove the differences in hospitalizations and ED visits in NHs with greater proportions of Black residents. Staffing is an area in which state and federal agencies should take action to improve the quality of care in NHs with larger proportions of Black residents.
