Background

Cerebral palsy (CP) is a unique neurological disorder which adversely affects motion. Cytokines and gut microbial composition contribute to CP and other diseases, such as reproductive tract inflammation and bone loss. Importantly, Saccharomyces boulardii (S. boulardii) reduces the degree of inflammation and improves overall health status. As our previous study showed that Lactobacillus rhamnosus (L. rhamnosus) OF44, a selected strain of gut bacteria originally used to treat reproductive tract inflammation and bone loss, has effects similar to that of S. boulardii, we decided to use L. rhamnosus OF44 on CP rats.
