Kurdish standard EMNIST-like character dataset.

ABSTRACT: A dataset was created by collecting handwritten samples of distinct Kurdish characters. The dataset consists primarily of 58 characters, and approximately 3800 adult volunteers who are native Kurdish speakers participated in the collection process. Each participant was requested to fill two rows in a character form printed on A4 landscape papers. These papers were divided into sets of four pages, with 18 columns and 10 rows of characters on each page, except for the fourth page in each set, which had 40 cells. To ensure a comprehensive dataset, over 760 sets were prepared and distributed across various universities and institutions. The collected samples underwent scanning, cropping, and preprocessing procedures following the characteristics established by the EMNIST project. The purpose of these procedures was to standardize the dataset and ensure uniformity in the representation of all characters.

Project description:The rapid growth of technology has massively increased the amount of text data. The data can be mined and utilized for numerous natural language processing (NLP) tasks, particularly text classification. The core part of text classification is collecting the data for predicting a good model. This paper collects Kurdish News Dataset Headlines (KNDH) for text classification. The dataset consists of 50000 news headlines which are equally distributed among five classes, with 10000 headlines for each class (Social, Sport, Health, Economic, and Technology). The percentage ratio of getting the channels of headlines is distinct, while the numbers of samples are equal for each category. There are 34 distinct channels that are used to collect the different headlines for each class, such as 8 channels for economics, 14 channels for health, 18 channels for science, 15 channels for social, and 5 channels for sport. The dataset is preprocessed using the Kurdish Language Processing Toolkit (KLPT) for tokenizing, spell-checking, stemming, and preprocessing.

Dataset for the recognition of Kurdish sound dialects.

Project description:Dialect recognition System (DRS) is a highly significant subject within the field of speech analysis. The performance of speech recognition systems is adversely impacted by factors such as the age, gender, and dialect features of the speaker. In order to address variations in dialect, it is possible to incorporate DRS into speech recognition systems. The system can be configured to utilize the appropriate speech recognition model based on the identification of the spoken dialect. Currently, there is a lack of available datasets suitable for the development of automatic dialect recognition systems specifically tailored for the Kurdish language. The proposed dataset under consideration is assessed using experimental data that has been gathered by personnel associated with the Computer Science Department at the University of Halabja. As the Kurdish language has three main dialects: Northern Kurdish (Badini variation), Central Kurdish (Sorani variant), and Hawrami, three dialects are included in the dataset.

Project description:Sentiment analysis is an essential task that involves the extraction, identification, characterization, and classification of textual data to understand and categorize the attitudes and opinions expressed by individuals. While other languages have extensive datasets in this field, the number of sentiment analysis datasets in the Kurdish language is extremely limited, highlighting the necessity to build datasets for the language to advance its development. This paper presents a Twitter dataset comprising 24,668 tweets from the initial sample of 30,009 texts. Human annotators labelled the tweets based on subjectivity, sentiment, offensiveness, and target. After the initial annotation, an independent reviewer examined all labelled data to ensure the construction of a robust dataset. The cleaned dataset includes 8772 subjective tweets and 15,896 non-subjective tweets. Regarding sentiment, 12,938 were classified as negative, 3189 as neutral, and 8541 as positive. Moreover, 22,436 were non-offensive tweets, while 2232 were offensive. Additionally, the dataset distinguishes between targeted and non-targeted tweets, with 22,436 tweets not aimed at specific individuals or entities, and 2232 tweets directed towards particular targets. This dataset serves as an essential resource for scholars in the field to build state-of-the-art models for the Kurdish language.

An extensive dataset of handwritten central Kurdish isolated characters.

Project description:To collect the handwritten format of separate Kurdish characters, each character has been printed on a grid of 14 × 9 of A4 paper. Each paper is filled with only one printed character so that the volunteers know what character should be written in each paper. Then each paper has been scanned, spliced, and cropped with a macro in photoshop to make sure the same process is applied for all characters. The grids of the characters have been filled mainly by volunteers of students from multiple universities in Erbil.

Project description:The Facebook application is used as a resource for collecting the comments of this dataset, The dataset consists of 6756 comments to create a Medical Kurdish Dataset (MKD). The samples are comments of users, which are gathered from different posts of pages (Medical, News, Economy, Education, and Sport). Six steps as a preprocessing technique are performed on the raw dataset to clean and remove noise in the comments by replacing characters. The comments (short text) are labeled for positive class (medical comment) and negative class (non-medical comment) as text classification. The percentage ratio of the negative class is 55% while the positive class is 45%.

A vast dataset for Kurdish handwritten digits and isolated characters recognition.

Project description:This article presents two massive datasets for central Kurdish handwriting digits and isolated characters named K-ZHMARA and K-PIT. The first dataset, named K-ZHMARA dataset, contains 70,000 images of Kurdish digits, 7000 images for each digit, and a printed A4 paper with a grid of 10 × 10 is used for data collection. Apart from digits, the K-PIT dataset includes 245,000 images of all Kurdish characters, 7000 images for each character; data was collected via a printed A4 paper with a grid of 12 × 10 for this dataset. Moreover, both datasets include 315,000 images. Python programming has been used to scan each piece of paper, segment, crop, resize, binarize, and invert the images via edge detection and image processing techniques.

Project description:The Manipuri language is the official language of the Indian state of Manipur. The language belongs to the Tibeto-Burman family of languages. A benchmark Meitei/Meetei script printed document images dataset is presented in this article. The dataset contains raw 824 pages of printed documents and binarized images, text files, and XML files for each raw image. It also includes 51,460 isolated character samples, composed of 27 consonants, 7 half-consonants, 8 vowels, and 10 numerical. This dataset could be used for optical character recognition (OCR) research and in the different research areas of natural language processing (NLP).

GOLD standard dataset for Alzheimer genes.

Project description:Alzheimer disease is a genetically complex multigenic neurodegenerative disorder, resulting from the interaction between multiple genes. Most of the earlier studies reported only few specific genes that have involvement in Alzheimer. However more than hundreds of susceptible genes have been observed, that have significant role in the development and progression of Alzheimer. Among all the existing data resources, Genetic association database is the most popular data source that contains information about genes, their association classes into positive, negative and neutral class and supporting reference. However, it contains lot of false positives and negatives associations. We have taken this data as reference and performed the double fold cross validation to compile the comprehensive list of Alzheimer genes, their association class viz, positive, negative or ambiguous with the disease and reference sentence confirming the association. The data generated will be used as a GOLD standard reference data set for the training of machine learning classifier to predict the classification of published literature not only in Alzheimer but in other diseases as well. In addition, positive associated genes data can also be used for the system level modelling or meta analysis of Alzheimer.

DeepLontar dataset for handwritten Balinese character detection and syllable recognition on Lontar manuscript.

Project description:The digitalization of traditional Palmyra manuscripts, such as Lontar, is the government's main focus in efforts to preserve Balinese culture. Digitization is done by acquiring Lontar manuscripts through photos or scans. To understand Lontar's contents, experts usually carry out transliteration. Automatic transliteration using computer vision is generally carried out in several stages: character detection, character recognition, syllable recognition, and word recognition. Many methods can be used for detection and recognition, but they need data to train and evaluate the resulting model. In compiling the dataset, the data needs to be processed and labelled. This paper presented data collection and building datasets for detection and recognition tasks. Lontar was collected from libraries at universities in Bali. Data generation was carried out to produce 400 augmented images from 200 Lontar original images to increase the variousness of data. Annotations were performed to label each character producing over 100,000 characters in 55 character classes. This dataset can be used to train and evaluate performance in character detection and syllable recognition of new manuscripts.
