Nitrogenases, the enzymes that convert N<sub>2</sub> to NH<sub>3</sub>, also catalyze the reductive coupling of CO to yield hydrocarbons. CO-coordinated species of nitrogenase clusters have been isolated and used to infer mechanistic information.
