Factors affecting the protection of data rights in sports events: a configurational analysis.

ABSTRACT: The development of algorithms and the spread of digital infrastructure have contributed significantly to the productivity of the digital economy. Data has come to be known as the "oil of the digital economy". At the same time, data has begun to participate more deeply in the production activities of the global sports industry chain, and the international discussion on how to protect the rights of sports event data has been increasing. Based on the configurational theory and fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis, this study discusses the factors affecting the protection of sports event data rights. The study found three configuration paths for achieving high enterprise data protection effectiveness and two for achieving low enterprise data protection effectiveness. The results of this study provide theoretical support for governments to address the issue of sports event data rights. They will also facilitate the safe use of data in sports, promote the global sports industry and humanitarian action development, and contribute to international sustainable development.

Project description:IntroductionIn the Philippines, studies on athletes are hard to come by when compared to those done internationally, even more so on newer Olympic sports such as Sports climbing. Furthermore, there is a lack of internationally published research on professional health-seeking behavior for the physical conditions of Filipino athletes. Thus, the objective of the study was to investigate the characteristics of sports climbers in Metro Manila that were associated with better health-seeking behavior.Materials and methodsAn analytical cross-sectional study design was done using an online interview-assisted questionnaire. The Action-intention subscale of the Attitudes Towards Medical Help-seeking Scale was used to measure health-seeking behavior in the study population. Other data gathered includes the population characteristics, injury characteristics, and social-environmental characteristics of sports climbers in Metro Manila.ResultsA total of 125 participants were interviewed, majority of whom were young adults and middle aged (72.8%), college graduates (67.2%), working full time (54.4%), middle class (22.4%), with slightly more males (49.6%). None of the social-environmental factors were found to be significant (p > 0.05). Trust in websites was found to be the only significant personal factor (2.99 ± 1.00, p < 0.05). Among the injury factors studied, the location of pain at the hip/pelvis and knee was found to be significant (p < 0.05).DiscussionClimbers in Metro Manila have a decreased tendency to engage in health-seeking behavior. Because of this, sports climbers in Metro Manila may be a vulnerable group in terms of availability of health care systems specific to the sport, accessibility of knowledge for self-diagnosis and management, and data enough present in the Philippines to create guidelines and protocols for climbing injuries. Better monitoring of information on websites is needed. Healthcare providers should also improve the way they approach and deal with sport climbing injuries.

Project description:ObjectiveMedical record abstraction (MRA) is often cited as a significant source of error in research data, yet MRA methodology has rarely been the subject of investigation. Lack of a common framework has hindered application of the extant literature in practice, and, until now, there were no evidence-based guidelines for ensuring data quality in MRA. We aimed to identify the factors affecting the accuracy of data abstracted from medical records and to generate a framework for data quality assurance and control in MRA.MethodsCandidate factors were identified from published reports of MRA. Content validity of the top candidate factors was assessed via a four-round two-group Delphi process with expert abstractors with experience in clinical research, registries, and quality improvement. The resulting coded factors were categorized into a control theory-based framework of MRA. Coverage of the framework was evaluated using the recent published literature.ResultsAnalysis of the identified articles yielded 292 unique factors that affect the accuracy of abstracted data. Delphi processes overall refuted three of the top factors identified from the literature based on importance and five based on reliability (six total factors refuted). Four new factors were identified by the Delphi. The generated framework demonstrated comprehensive coverage. Significant underreporting of MRA methodology in recent studies was discovered.ConclusionThe framework generated from this research provides a guide for planning data quality assurance and control for studies using MRA. The large number and variability of factors indicate that while prospective quality assurance likely increases the accuracy of abstracted data, monitoring the accuracy during the abstraction process is also required. Recent studies reporting research results based on MRA rarely reported data quality assurance or control measures, and even less frequently reported data quality metrics with research results. Given the demonstrated variability, these methods and measures should be reported with research results.
