Project description:A new species of Cumacea belonging to the genus Eocuma Marcusen was collected from the South Sea of Korea. This new species resembles E. amakusense Gamô, E. hilgendorfi Marcusen, and E. latum Calman in having a pair of well-developed dorso-lateral carinae on the flat carapace and similar setae pattern on the telson. The new species, however, is easily distinguished from its congeners by the pattern of dorso-lateral carina and lacking lateral horns on the carapace. The adult male of this new species is fully described. A key to the Korean Eocuma species is also provided.

This new species resembles Lampropscomatus Zimmer, Lampropscarinatus Hart, Lampropsflavus Harada, Lampropspumilio Zimmer, Lampropstomalesi Gladfelter, and Lampropsobfuscatus (Gladfelter) in lacking lateral oblique ridges on the carapace and lateral setae on the telson. The new species, however, is distinguished from its congeners by having a dorsal concave groove and a lateral rounded depressed area on pereonite 2. The new species is fully illustrated and compared with related species. A key to the world Lamprops species lacking lateral ridges on the carapace is also provided.
Project description:A new species of the family Calliopiidae was collected from the East Sea of Korea. Calliopiusulleungensis sp. nov. is similar to C.columbianus Bousfield & Hendrycks, 1997 in having numerous calceoli on the posteromedial margins of antennae and a weakly carinate body. However, the new species can be distinguished from C.columbianus by the shorter process on peduncular article 3 of antenna 1, subrectangular eyes, and fewer articles in the antenna flagellum. This species, along with C.ezoensisShimoji et al. 2020, occurs in the Western Pacific. The females of the two species are morphologically very similar, but the males of C.ezoensis are easily distinguishable, as the gnathopod 1 is larger than gnathopod 2. The new species is fully illustrated and extensively compared with related species. In this paper, both Calliopius and Calliopiidae are reported from Korea for the first time. A key to species of Calliopius is also provided.
Project description:A new species of pseudocrangonyctid amphipod, Pseudocrangonyx wonkimi sp. nov., was found in the groundwater of a cave in the southwestern Korean Peninsula. Pseudocrangonyx wonkimi sp. nov. is morphologically most closely related to P. joolaeiLee et al., 2020. However, P. wonkimi is clearly distinguished from P. joolaei by lacking sternal gills, fewer setae on maxilla 1 inner plate, fewer serrate robust setae on the carpus of the gnathopods, lacking bifid setae on the inner ramus of pleopod 3, and fewer articles of rami on pleopod 3. We also determined sequences of mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI) of P. wonkimi sp. nov. for molecular diagnosis. From the molecular analysis based on COI sequences, P. wonkimi showed the closest relationship with P. joolaei with 15.1% genetic distance.
Project description:Two new pontogeneiid amphipods, Eusiroides pilopalpussp. n. and Paramoera dentipleuraesp. n., from Korean waters are described and illustrated. Eusiroides pilopalpussp. n. can be distinguished from congeners by the following characters: mandibular palp article 3 has brush-like setation, maxilla 2 has an inner plate that is not enlarged, and gnathopods 1 and 2 ischium has a well-developed anterior lobe. Paramoera dentipleuraesp. n. can be discriminated from congeners by the following characters: head anterior cephalic lobe is sinusoid, pereopods 5-7 are homopodous and slender, pereopods 6 and 7 basis are proximally lobed but distally diminished on posterior margins, and epimeron 3 is prominently expanded posterodistally.
Project description:A new species of the genus Monoliropus belonging to the family Caprellidae was collected from the Yellow Sea, Korea. The new species differs from Monoliropusagilis Mayer, 1903, Monoliropuskazemii Momtazi & Sari, 2013, and Triprotellaamica Arimoto, 1970 as follows: 1) gnathopod 1 subrectangular; 2) pereonites 2-3 with acute triangular processes anterolaterally; 3) mandibular palp, apical article with four simple setae subdistally. The new species is fully illustrated and extensively compared with related species. This is the first record of the genus Monoliropus from Korean waters. A key to Monoliropus species is also given.

Project description:Two new species of the family Aoridae, one from the genus Aoroides Walker, 1898, and other from the genus Grandidierella Coutière, 1904, are reported from Korean waters. Aoroidesgracilicrus sp. nov. is similar to A.longimerus in having numerous plumose setae on the basis and carpus of gnathopod 1. However, the new species can be distinguished from A.longimerus by the numerous plumose setae on the bases of pereopods 3 and 4 and the slender basis of pereopod 7. Grandidierellanaroensis sp. nov. is morphologically most similar to G.pseudosakaensis. However, the new species can be distinguished by the presence of small distal and proximal processes and a large middle process on the carpus of gnathopod 1, and the subovate propodus of gnathopod 1. Both new species are illustrated and compared to related species. A key to species in the family Aoridae from Korean waters is also provided.
Project description:Two dexaminid amphipod species belonging to the genus Paradexamine were collected from Korean waters. After observation and identification compared with related congeners, these two species are revealed to be new to science. In comparative identification, one of the new species, P.acuta sp. nov. is similar to P.houtete in having an acutely rounded lobe and posteroventrally pointed coxa 7. However, this new species is distinguished from P.houtete in having a larger number of medial setae on the propodus of gnathopod 1 and a rounded basis of pereopod 6. This new species is also very similar to P.marlie s.l. Hirayama from Japanese waters, and P.marlie s.l. might be re-established or synonymized with P.acuta sp. nov. in the future. The other new species, P.rotundogena sp. nov. is similar to P.tafunsaka in having a rounded eye lobe; however, it is distinguished from P.tafunsaka in having an elongate carpus on gnathopod 2 and the differently shaped basis of pereopod 7. A key to the five Korean species of Paradexamine, including the two new species, is also provided.
Project description:A new species of the genus Pseudaeginella Mayer, 1890 belonging to the family Caprellidae Leach, 1814 was collected from the South Sea in Korea. Pseudaeginellacarinaspinosasp. nov. is morphologically similar to related congeners belonging to the genera Paradeutella Mayer, 1890 and Pseudaeginella, in having dorsal projections on pereonites, triarticulate mandibular palp, small or absent molar, and uniarticulate pereopods 3 and 4. However, this new species is distinguished from its congeners by the position and size of dorsal projection. This is the first record of Pseudaeginella from the Northwest Pacific region, including Korea, and a key to species of the genus Pseudaeginella is also provided.
