A narrative review of lateral meniscus root tears and extrusion: techniques and outcomes.

ABSTRACT:

Objective

In this review, we performed a literature search and described the surgical procedure for a lateral meniscus posterior root tears (LMPRT) repair using a pull-out technique and an arthroscopic centralization for lateral meniscus (LM) extrusion.

Background

The menisci play a pivotal role in the shock-absorbing and load-dispersing functions of the knee joint. They also contribute to its stability. Meniscal root tears substantially affect meniscal hoop function and accelerate cartilage degeneration. Additionally, LMPRT have been shown to affect anterolateral knee laxity and tibiofemoral contact pressure in knees with anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury. Therefore, appropriate management of LMPRT is essential for restoring knee function. Meniscus extrusion has attra
