<i>Serratia marcescens</i> is an opportunistic pathogen that survives in inhospitable environments causing large outbreaks, particularly in neonatal intensive care units (NICUs). Genomic studies revealed that most <i>S. marcescens</i> nosocomial infections are caused by a specific clone (here "Infectious clone").
