An Open-Circuit Fault Diagnosis Method for Three-Level Neutral Point Clamped Inverters Based on Multi-Scale Shuffled Convolutional Neural Network.

ABSTRACT: This study constructs a power switching device open-circuit fault diagnosis model for a three-level neutral point clamped inverter based on the multi-scale shuffled convolutional neural network (MSSCNN) and extracts and classifies the fault information contained in the output current of inverters. The model employs depthwise separable convolution and channel shuffle techniques to improve diagnostic accuracy and reduce model complexity. The experimental results show that the new model has lower model complexity, better noise resistance and higher average diagnostic accuracy compared with fault diagnosis models based on CNN, ResNet, ShuffleNet V2 and Mobilenet V3 networks.

Converting data into knowledge with RCA methodology improved for inverters fault analysis.

Project description:In the last years, the knowledge management methodology increased the perspective and deeply analysis in the energy evaluation, with great emphasis in the training of the maintenance teams and early detection of failure modes; these inefficiencies detection is associated to patterns recognition with expert systems. Several energy brands, utilities, universities, and design companies investigated about this problem with limits in the integration between maintenance team knowledge and the degradation of the energy equipment. Therefore, our findings are a new approach of the root cause analysis (RCA) improved with the knowledge management perspective, associated to the failure mode analysis for 164 inverters in photo-voltaic solar plant by using twenty-one failures modes; by incorporate the graph theory called Erdös-Rényi graphs with a quantitative methodology and qualitative evaluation with the knowledge management method in the root cause analysis; the dataset evaluated has 120,561 signals associated to 3,014,025 patterns, during the period from 2018 to 2021 in a PV solar plant. In this new root cause analysis method, the knowledge management is analyzed as a complement for the solution for sudden failure modes and early degradation.

Multifrequency excitation of a clamped-clamped microbeam: Analytical and experimental investigation.

Project description:Using partial electrodes and a multifrequency electrical source, we present a large-bandwidth, large-amplitude clamped-clamped microbeam resonator excited near the higher order modes of vibration. We analytically and experimentally investigate the nonlinear dynamics of the microbeam under a two-source harmonic excitation. The first-frequency source is swept around the first three modes of vibration, whereas the second source frequency remains fixed. New additive and subtractive resonances are demonstrated. We illustrated that by properly tuning the frequency and amplitude of the excitation force, the frequency bandwidth of the resonator is controlled. The microbeam is fabricated using polyimide as a structural layer coated with nickel from the top and chromium and gold layers from the bottom. Using the Galerkin method, a reduced order model is derived to simulate the static and dynamic response of the device. A good agreement between the theoretical and experimental data are reported.

Mechanical fault diagnosis of high voltage circuit breaker using multimodal data fusion.

Project description:A high voltage circuit breaker (HVCB) plays a crucial role in current smart power system. However, the current research on HVCB mainly focuses on the convenience and efficiency of mechanical structures, ignoring the aspect of their fault diagnosis. It is very important to ensure the circuit breaker conducts in a normal state. According to real statistics when HVCB works, most defects and faults in high voltage circuit breakers is caused by mechanical faults such as contact fault, mechanism seizure, bolt loosening, spring fatigue and so on. In this study, vibration sensors were placed at four different locations in the HVCB system to detect four common mechanical faults using vibration signal. In our approach, a convolutional attention network (CANet) was introduced to extract features and determine which mechanical faults occur within a fixed period of time. The results indicate that the mechanical fault diagnosis accuracy rate is up to 94.2%, surpassing traditional methods that rely solely on vibration signals from a single location.

An Intelligent Gear Fault Diagnosis Methodology Using a Complex Wavelet Enhanced Convolutional Neural Network.

Project description:As a typical example of large and complex mechanical systems, rotating machinery is prone to diversified sorts of mechanical faults. Among these faults, one of the prominent causes of malfunction is generated in gear transmission chains. Although they can be collected via vibration signals, the fault signatures are always submerged in overwhelming interfering contents. Therefore, identifying the critical fault's characteristic signal is far from an easy task. In order to improve the recognition accuracy of a fault's characteristic signal, a novel intelligent fault diagnosis method is presented. In this method, a dual-tree complex wavelet transform (DTCWT) is employed to acquire the multiscale signal's features. In addition, a convolutional neural network (CNN) approach is utilized to automatically recognise a fault feature from the multiscale signal features. The experiment results of the recognition for gear faults show the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed method, especially in the gear's weak fault features.

Conduction Band Energy-Level Engineering for Improving Open-Circuit Voltage in Antimony Selenide Nanorod Array Solar Cells.

Project description:Antimony selenide (Sb2 Se3 ) nanorod arrays along the [001] orientation are known to transfer photogenerated carriers rapidly due to the strongly anisotropic one-dimensional crystal structure. With advanced light-trapping structures, the Sb2 Se3 nanorod array-based solar cells have excellent broad spectral response properties, and higher short-circuit current density than the conventional planar structured thin film solar cells. However, the interface engineering for the Sb2 Se3 nanorod array-based solar cell is more crucial to increase the performance, because it is challenging to coat a compact buffer layer with perfect coverage to form a uniform heterojunction interface due to its large surface area and length-diameter ratio. In this work, an intermeshing In2 S3 nanosheet-CdS composite as the buffer layer, compactly coating on the Sb2 Se3 nanorod surface is constructed. The application of In2 S3 -CdS composite buffers build a gradient conduction band energy configuration in the Sb2 Se3 /buffer heterojunction interface, which reduces the interface recombination and enhances the transfer and collection of photogenerated electrons. The energy-level regulation minimizes the open-circuit voltage deficit at the interfaces of buffer/Sb2 Se3 and buffer/ZnO layers in the Sb2 Se3 solar cells. Consequently, the Sb2 Se3 nanorod array solar cell based on In2 S3 -CdS composite buffers achieves an efficiency of as high as 9.19% with a VOC of 461 mV.

Deep Convolutional Neural Network with Deconvolution and a Deep Autoencoder for Fault Detection and Diagnosis.

Project description:In chemical plants and other industrial facilities, the rapid and accurate detection of the root causes of process faults is essential for the prevention of unknown accidents. This study focused on deep learning while considering the different phenomena that can occur in industrial facilities. A deep convolutional neural network with deconvolution and a deep autoencoder (DDD) is proposed. DDD assesses the process dynamics and the nonlinearity between process variables. During the operation of DDD, fault detection is carried out using the reconstruction error between the data reconstructed through the model and the input data. After a process fault is detected, the magnitude of the contribution of each process variable to the detected process fault is calculated by applying gradient-weighted class activation mapping to the established network. The effectiveness of DDD in fault detection and diagnosis was verified through experiments on the Tennessee Eastman process dataset, demonstrating that it can achieve improved performance compared to the conventional fault detection and diagnosis.

Multi-Stream Convolutional Neural Networks for Rotating Machinery Fault Diagnosis under Noise and Trend Items.

Project description:In recent years, rotating machinery fault diagnosis methods based on convolutional neural network have achieved much success. However, in real industrial environments, interfering signals are unavoidable, which may reduce the accuracy of fault diagnosis seriously. Most of the current fault diagnosis methods are of single input type, which may lead to the information contained in the vibration signal not being fully utilized. In this study, theoretical analysis and comprehensive comparative experiments are completed to investigate the time domain input, frequency domain input, and two types of time-frequency domain input. Based on this, a new fault diagnosis model, named multi-stream convolutional neural network, is developed. The model takes the time domain, frequency domain, and time-frequency domain images as input, and it automatically fuses the information contained in different inputs. The proposed model is tested based on three public datasets. The experimental results suggested that the model achieved pretty high accuracy under noise and trend items without the help of signal separation algorithms. In addition, the positive implications of multiple inputs and information fusion are analyzed through the visualization of learned features.

Electronic zero-point fluctuation forces inside circuit components.

Project description:One of the most intriguing manifestations of quantum zero-point fluctuations are the van der Waals and Casimir forces, often associated with vacuum fluctuations of the electromagnetic field. We study generalized fluctuation potentials acting on internal degrees of freedom of components in electrical circuits. These electronic Casimir-like potentials are induced by the zero-point current fluctuations of any general conductive circuit. For realistic examples of an electromechanical capacitor and a superconducting qubit, our results reveal the possibility of tunable forces between the capacitor plates, or the level shifts of the qubit, respectively. Our analysis suggests an alternative route toward the exploration of Casimir-like fluctuation potentials, namely, by characterizing and measuring them as a function of parameters of the environment. These tunable potentials may be useful for future nanoelectromechanical and quantum technologies.
