Performance of T²-based PCA mix control chart with KDE control limit for monitoring variable and attribute characteristics.

ABSTRACT: In this work, the mixed multivariate T² control chart's detailed performance evaluation based on PCA mix is explored. The control limit of the proposed control chart is calculated using the kernel density approach. Through simulation studies, the proposed chart's performance is assessed in terms of its capacity to identify outliers and process shifts. When 30% more outliers are included in the data, the proposed chart provides a consistent accuracy rate for identifying mixed outliers. For the balanced percentage of attribute qualities, misdetection happens because of the high false alarm rate. For unbalanced attribute qualities and excessive proportions, the masking effect is the key issue. The proposed chart shows the improved performance for the shift in identifying the shift in the process.

Comparing the performance of Kernel PCA Mix Chart with PCA Mix Chart for monitoring mixed quality characteristics.

Project description:Along with the development of information and technology, the quality characteristics of a product cannot be monitored separately in the different types of control charts. In the past, conventional control charts were developed to monitor only one type of quality characteristic. The variable control charts are used to observe the variable or metric quality characteristics. Meanwhile, in monitoring non-metric characteristics or categorical data, attribute control charts are employed. To accommodate these two types of data, the PCA Mix control chart is suggested to simultaneously monitor these two types of data in one chart. However, some drawbacks occur when this chart is applied to monitor non-metric data which has an imbalanced proportion. Therefore, the Kernel PCA Mix control chart is created to overcome the gaps that occurred in the PCA Mix chart. Similar to the previous chart, this chart is also constructed using Hotelling's T2 statistics with Kernel Density Estimation control limit. Several simulations are used to evaluate the performance of the proposed control charts. The simulation results show that the proposed chart has a better result than the previous control chart, especially for a small mean shift with an imbalanced proportion of non-metric data. However, the PCA Mix chart has a similar performance to the proposed chart when it is applied to monitor the balanced proportion of categorical data with a large mean shift. The application with simulated data with various scenarios and the real-world case also shows that the Kernel PCA Mix chart performs better compared to the performance of the PCA Mix chart.

An attribute control chart for a Weibull distribution under accelerated hybrid censoring.

Project description:In this article, an attribute control chart has been proposed using the accelerated hybrid censoring logic for the monitoring of defective items whose life follows a Weibull distribution. The product can be tested by introducing the acceleration factor based on different pressurized conditions such as stress, load, strain, temperature, etc. The control limits are derived based on the binomial distribution, but the fraction defective is expressed only through the shape parameter, the acceleration factor and the test duration constant. Tables of the average run lengths have been generated for different process parameters to assess the performance of the proposed control chart. Simulation studies have been performed for the practical use, where the proposed chart is compared with the Shewhart np chart for demonstration of the detection power of a process shift.

Process monitoring using inflated beta regression control chart.

Project description:This paper provides a general framework for controlling quality characteristics related to control variables and limited to the intervals (0, 1], [0, 1), or [0, 1]. The proposed control chart is based on the inflated beta regression model considering a reparametrization of the inflated beta distribution indexed by the response mean, which is useful for modeling fractions and proportions. The contribution of the paper is twofold. First, we extend the inflated beta regression model by allowing a regression structure for the precision parameter. We also present closed-form expressions for the score vector and Fisher's information matrix. Second, based on the proposed regression model, we introduce a new model-based control chart. The control limits are obtained considering the estimates of the inflated beta regression model parameters. We conduct a Monte Carlo simulation study to evaluate the performance of the proposed regression model estimators, and the performance of the proposed control chart is evaluated in terms of run length distribution. Finally, we present and discuss an empirical application to show the applicability of the proposed regression control chart.

Monitoring of zero-inflated binomial processes with a DEWMA control chart.

Project description:Control charts are widely used for monitoring quality characteristics of high-yield processes. In such processes where a large number of zero observations exists in count data, the zero-inflated binomial (ZIB) models are more appropriate than the ordinary binomial models. In ZIB models, random shocks occur with probability θ, and upon the occurrence of random shocks, the number of non-conforming items in a sample of size n follows the binomial distribution with proportion p. In the present article, we study in more detail the exponentially weighted moving average control chart based on ZIB distribution (ZIB-EWMA) and we also propose a new control chart based on the double exponentially weighted moving average statistic for monitoring ZIB data (ZIB-DEWMA). The two control charts are studied in detecting upward shifts in θ or p individually, as well as in both parameters simultaneously. Through a simulation study, we compare the performance of the proposed chart with the ZIB-Shewhart, ZIB-EWMA and ZIB-CUSUM charts. Finally, an illustrative example is also presented to display the practical application of the ZIB charts.

An enhanced EWMA chart with variable sampling interval scheme for monitoring the exponential process with estimated parameter.

Project description:Control charts have been used to monitor product manufacturing processes for decades. The exponential distribution is commonly used to fit data in research related to healthcare and product lifetime. This study proposes an exponentially weighted moving average control chart with a variable sampling interval scheme to monitor the exponential process, denoted as a VSIEWMA-exp chart. The performance measures are investigated using the Markov chain method. In addition, an algorithm to obtain the optimal parameters of the model is proposed. We compared the proposed control chart with other competitors, and the results showed that our proposed method outperformed other competitors. Finally, an illustrative example with the data concerning urinary tract infections is presented.

A double generally weighted moving average control chart for monitoring the process variability.

Project description:In the present article, a double generally weighted moving average (DGWMA) control chart based on a three-parameter logarithmic transformation is proposed for monitoring the process variability, namely the S2-DGWMA chart. Monte-Carlo simulations are utilized in order to evaluate the run-length performance of the S2-DGWMA chart. In addition, a detailed comparative study is conducted to compare the performance of the S2-DGWMA chart with several well-known memory-type control charts in the literature. The comparisons indicate that the proposed one is more efficient in detecting small shifts, while it is more sensitive in identifying upward shifts in the process variability. A real data example is given to present the implementation of the new S2-DGWMA chart.

Flow-directed PCA for monitoring networks.

Project description:Measurements recorded over monitoring networks often possess spatial and temporal correlation inducing redundancies in the information provided. For river water quality monitoring in particular, flow-connected sites may likely provide similar information. This paper proposes a novel approach to principal components analysis to investigate reducing dimensionality for spatiotemporal flow-connected network data in order to identify common spatiotemporal patterns. The method is illustrated using monthly observations of total oxidized nitrogen for the Trent catchment area in England. Common patterns are revealed that are hidden when the river network structure and temporal correlation are not accounted for. Such patterns provide valuable information for the design of future sampling strategies.

The STRAND Chart: A survival time control chart.

Project description:The STRAND Chart (Survival Time, Risk-Adjusted, N-Division Chart) is a new tool for online risk-adjusted (RA) monitoring of survival outcomes. The chart is drawn in continuous time, making it responsive to change in the process of interest, for example, performance over time of a surgical unit and the procedures that they employ. Though it is difficult to achieve with charts designed for the purpose described, we show that our suggested chart keeps patient ordering intact. We discuss the difficulties maintaining patient ordering poses, making reference to other charts in the literature. Our conclusion is that the best approach to preserving patient ordering on any chart of this nature involves compromising on the fullness of presentation of the recorded data. The chart is divided into N strands, each strand relating to a benchmark patient's survival information at tn days following treatment, n = 1,2,…,N. We present a simple version of the chart where the strands consist of Bernoulli RA exponentially weighted moving averages, recording RA failure rates at tn days. It can detect recent process change and historical change. We illustrate the STRAND Chart using a well-known UK post cardiac surgery survival dataset, where the nature of a certain cluster in the data can be seen.

Monitoring of manufacturing process using bayesian EWMA control chart under ranked based sampling designs.

Project description:Control charts, including exponentially moving average (EWMA) , are valuable for efficiently detecting small to moderate shifts. This study introduces a Bayesian EWMA control chart that employs ranked set sampling (RSS) with known prior information and two distinct loss functions (LFs), the Square Error Loss function (SELF) and the Linex Loss function (LLF), for posterior and posterior predictive distributions. The chart's performance is assessed using average run length (ARL) and standard deviation of run length (SDRL) profiles, and it is compared to the Bayesian EWMA control chart based on simple random sampling (SRS). The results indicate that the proposed control chart detects small to moderate shifts more effectively. The application in semiconductor manufacturing provides concrete evidence that the Bayesian EWMA control chart, when implemented with RSS schemes, demonstrates a higher degree of sensitivity in detecting deviations from normal process behavior. Comparison to the Bayesian EWMA control chart using SRS, it exhibits a superior ability to identify and flag instances where the manufacturing process is going out of control. This heightened sensitivity is critical for promptly addressing and rectifying issues, which ultimately contributes to improved quality control in semiconductor production.

Multivariate nonparametric chart for influenza epidemic monitoring.

Project description:Control chart methods have been received much attentions in biosurvillance studies. The correlation between charting statistics or regions could be considerably important in monitoring the states of multiple outcomes or regions. In addition, the process variable distribution is unknown in most situations. In this paper, we propose a new nonparametric strategy for multivariate process monitoring when the distribution of a process variable is unknown. We discuss the EWMA control chart based on rank methods for a multivariate process, and the approach is completely nonparametric. A simulation study demonstrates that the proposed method is efficient in detecting shifts for multivariate processes. A real Japanese influenza data example is given to illustrate the performance of the proposed method.
