Preeclampsia is caused by placental hypoxia and systemic inflammation and is associated with reduced placental growth factor (PlGF) and endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) levels. The molecular signaling axes involved in this process may play a role in the pathogenesis of preeclampsia.
