UFMylation is a highly conserved ubiquitin-like post-translational modification that catalyzes the covalent linkage of UFM1 to its target proteins. This modification plays a critical role in the maintenance of endoplasmic reticulum proteostasis, DNA damage response, autophagy, and transcriptional regulation.
