Project description:Species of the spider genus Belisana Thorell, 1898 exhibit high diversity in Guizhou, southwestern China. Previously, only eight species of Belisana were recorded in Guizhou. In this study, nine new species are described from karst caves: Belisanabijie Wang, S. Li & Yao, sp. nov., B.liupanshui Wang, S. Li & Yao, sp. nov., B.majiang Wang, S. Li & Yao, sp. nov., B.nayong Wang, S. Li & Yao, sp. nov., B.qixingguan Wang, S. Li & Yao, sp. nov., B.xiuwen Wang, S. Li & Yao, sp. nov., B.yongcong Wang, S. Li & Yao, sp. nov., B.zhouxi Wang, S. Li & Yao, sp. nov., and B.zunyi Wang, S. Li & Yao, sp. nov. Belisanazhangi Tong & Li, 2007 is reported from Guizhou for the first time. In addition, a list of all species of Belisana from Guizhou is provided.
Project description:One new species Belisanadenticulata sp. n. (♂) is reported from northern Vietnam based on material collected by fogging the forest canopy. This species resembles Belisanascharffi Huber, 2005, but can be distinguished by relatively long distance between proximal parts of proximo-lateral apophysis and distal apophysis on male chelicerae, by presence of a nearly saddle-shaped prolateral sclerite on procursus, and by different shape of retrolateral membranous flap on procursus. Type specimens are deposited in the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology in Hanoi.
Project description:Spiders of the genus Althepus Thorell, 1898 are found throughout Southeast Asia, notable for their long walking legs. Ten new species are reported in this paper from China, Indonesia, Laos and Myanmar: A.chengmenensis Li & Li, sp. n. (♂♀), A.cheni Li & Li, sp. n. (♂♀), A.gouci Li & Li, sp. n. (♂♀), A.hongguangi Li & Li, sp. n. (♂♀), A.phousalao Li & Li, sp. n. (♂♀), A.qianhuang Li & Li, sp. n. (♂♀), A.qingyuani Li & Li, sp. n. (♀), A.sepakuensis Li & Li, sp. n. (♂♀), A.xuae Li & Li, sp. n. (♂♀) and A.yizhuang Li & Li, sp. n. (♂♀). These species were found in cave entrances and among tree-buttresses, indicating the spiders have a preference for dark and moist environments. All types are deposited in the Institute of Zoology, Chinese Academy of Sciences in Beijing, China (IZCAS).
Project description:BackgroundThe genus Khorata Huber, 2005 contains 51 species. It is distributed in the Indo-Malayan Region. Nine species have been recorded from Vietnam.New informationKhorataninhbinh sp. nov. is described as a new species from Vietnam. In addition, a list of all Khorata species from Vietnam is also provided.
Project description:Three new Pinelema species, P. cunfengensis Zhao & Li, sp. n. (♂♀), P. podiensis Zhao & Li, sp. n. (♂♀), and P. qingfengensis Zhao & Li, sp. n. (♂♀), are described from the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region of China, bringing the total number of Pinelema species to eight. All occur in Yunnan Province or the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. The male palp of Telemidae was studied for the first time using scanning electron microscope.
Project description:FOUR NEW SPECIES OF THE SPIDER FAMILY THERIDIOSOMATIDAE ARE DESCRIBED FROM CAVES IN LAOS: Alaria cavernicola sp. n. (♂♀), A. navicularis sp. n., (♂♀) A. bicornis sp. n. (♂♀), Chthonopes thakekensis sp. n. (♀). Diagnoses and illustrations for all new taxa are given. All holotypes are deposited in the Senckenberg Research Institute in Frankfurt am Main, Germany (SMF).
Project description:Six new species of the spider genus Spiricoelotes Wang, 2002 are described, Spiricoelotes anshiensis Chen & Li, sp. n. (♂♀), Spiricoelotes chufengensis Chen & Li, sp. n. (♂♀), Spiricoelotes nansheensis Chen & Li, sp. n. (♂♀), Spiricoelotes taipingensis Chen & Li, sp. n. (♂♀), Spiricoelotes xianheensis Chen & Li, sp. n. (♂♀) and Spiricoelotes xiongxinensis Chen & Li, sp. n. (♀). All new species were collected from caves in Jiangxi Province, China.
Project description:In this study, three new species belonging to the genus Pholcus, collected from a forest of the Taihang Mountains, P. R. China, are described under the names of Pholcus papillatus sp. n. (male, female), Pholcus curvus sp. n. (male, female) and Pholcus auricularis sp. n. (male, female).
Project description:Herein four species of the trapdoor spider genus Conothele Thorell, 1878 collected from China are described as new to science based on the female genital morphology: C.baisha sp. n. (Hainan Province), C.baoting sp. n. (Hainan Province), C.linzhi sp. n. (Tibet), and C.jinggangshan sp. n. (Jiangxi Province). For two Hainan species, C.baisha sp. n. and C.baoting sp. n., between which it is difficult to distinguish solely based on female genital morphology, additional diagnoses derived from species-specific nucleotide substitution information and genetic distances using the mitochondrial gene, cytochrome c oxidase subunit I are provided.
Project description:The Pholcus phungiformes species group is highly diverse and currently contains 53 species. In this study, Pholcus tongyaoi Wang & Yao, sp. nov. (male, female) from Huairou District, Beijing, China is described while similar congener Pholcus lexuancanhi Yao, Pham & Li, 2012 from neighboring Haidian District (type locality) is redescribed; the female of P. lexuancanhi is described for the first time. In addition, the DNA barcode COI for the two species was obtained to estimate p-distance.
