The enzyme UDP-glucose: glycoprotein glucosyltransferase (UGGT) is the gatekeeper of protein folding within the endoplasmic reticulum (ER). One-third of the human proteome traverses the ER where folding and maturation are facilitated by a complex protein homeostasis network.
