Synthesis of Calixarene-Capped Silver Nanoparticles for Colorimetric and Amperometric Detection of Mercury (HgII, Hg0).

Project description:Calixarene-functionalized water dispersible silver nanoparticles have been synthesized and characterized on the basis of UV-vis, IR, X-ray diffraction, and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy analysis, and their sensing properties toward metal ions have been investigated. They selectively detect Hg2+ and Hg0 in solution and vapor phases, respectively, with distinct color change. Interference study with mixture of metal ions revealed no interference from any other metal ions used in this study. Their mechanism of detection involved Hg2+-aided displacement of calixarene moiety from the surface of the functionalized nanoparticles, followed by the formation of Ag-Hg amalgam due to interaction of Hg2+ with Ag0 and also the formation of assembly of Ag0 nanoparticles by dipole-dipole interaction of the bare-surfaced nanoparticles. Electrochemical study revealed that with the aid of functionalized nanoparticles, Hg2+ can be detected amperometrically with high sensitivity. The detection limits obtained for Hg2+ by UV-vis study and amperometry are 0.5 nM (0.1 ppb) and 10 nM (2 ppb), respectively. The new material has been used to detect Hg2+ in aqueous real sample and Hg0 in soil sample.

Complete chloroplast genome sequence of Hedychium coronarium.

Project description:The first complete chloroplast genome of Hedychium coronarium (Zingiberaceae) was reported in this study. The H. coronarium chloroplast genome was 163,949 bp in length and comprised a pair of inverted repeat (IR) regions of 29,780 bp each, a large single-copy (LSC) region of 88,581 bp and a small single-copy (SSC) region of 15,808 bp. It encoded 141 genes, including 87 protein-coding genes (79 PCG species), 46 tRNA genes (28 tRNA species), and eight rRNA genes (four rRNA species). The nucleotide composition was asymmetric (31.68% A, 18.35% C, 17.74% G, 32.23% T) with an overall AT content of 63.92%. Phylogenetic analysis showed that H. coronarium was classified into a monophyletic group within the genus Hedychium in family Zingiberaceae.

Gingerol extract-stabilized silver nanoparticles and their applications: colorimetric and machine learning-based sensing of Hg(ii) and antibacterial properties.

Project description:This study focused on synthesizing ginger-stabilized silver nanoparticles (Gin-AgNPs) using a more eco-friendly method that utilized AgNO3 and natural ginger solution. These nanoparticles underwent a color change from yellow to colorless when exposed to Hg2+, enabling the detection of Hg2+ in tap water. The colorimetric sensor had good sensitivity, with a limit of detection (LOD) of 1.46 μM and a limit of quantitation (LOQ) of 3.04 μM. Importantly, the sensor operated accurately without being affected by various other metal ions. To enhance its performance, a machine learning approach was employed and achieved accuracy ranging from 0% to 14.66% when trained with images of Gin-AgNP solutions containing different Hg2+ concentrations. Furthermore, the Gin-AgNPs and Gin-AgNPs hydrogels exhibited antibacterial effects against both Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria, indicating potential future applications in the detection of Hg2+ and in wound healing.

Highly sensitive and selective colorimetric detection of dual metal ions (Hg2+ and Sn2+) in water: an eco-friendly approach.

Project description:Application of an alliin-based precursor for the synthesis of silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) which is an emerging, reliable and rapid sensor of heavy metal ion contaminants in water is reported here. The Ag NPs were characterized by using UV-visible spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and Raman spectroscopy analysis techniques. The Ag NPs simultaneously and selectively detect Hg2+ and Sn2+ ions from aqueous solution. The sensitivity and selectivity of the prepared Ag NPs towards other representative transition-metal ions, alkali metal ions and alkaline earth metal ions were also studied. For more precise evidence, a density functional theory study was carried out to understand the possible mechanism and interaction in the detection of Hg2+ and Sn2+ by Ag NPs. The limits of detection for Hg2+ and Sn2+ ions were found as 15.7 nM and 11.25 nM, respectively. This assay indicates the possible use of garlic extract-synthesized Ag NPs for sensing Hg2+ and Sn2+ in aqueous solution very significantly. So, the simple, green, eco-friendly and easy method to detect the dual metal ions may further lead to a potential sensor of heavy metal ion contaminants in water of industrial importance.

Two novel colorimetric fluorescent probes: Hg2+ and Al3+ in the visual colorimetric recognition environment.

Project description:Two new dual channel Schiff base fluorescent probes, Tri-R6G and Tri-Flu, were synthesized, and can detect Hg2+ and Al3+, respectively. The two probes were characterized by FTIR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR and HRMS, and their optical properties were detected by UV and FL. Test results showed the probes' detection of Hg2+ and Al3+ compared to other metal ions (Ag+, Co2+, Cd2+, Mg2+, Cu2+, Ni2+, Ba2+, Pb2+, Cr3+, Al3+, Zn2+, Hg2+, K+, Ga2+ and Fe3+), respectively. Besides, the detection limits were determined to be 1.61 × 10-8 M and 1.15 × 10-8 M through the standard curve plot, respectively. The photoelectron transfer (PET) mechanism was guessed by the Job's plot and the infrared titration. Corresponding orbital electron distribution and molecular geometry configurations of the compounds were predicted by density functional theory (DFT). In addition, the prepared test paper changed from white to pink when the target ion was detected. The color changed from colorless to pink in a solution having a concentration of 10-5 M.
