Project description:Phosphorus is fast becoming a critical element, as the global supply and demand are reaching unsustainable levels. Herein, the synthesis, characterization, and applicability of a novel biomass-derived mesoporous carbonaceous material decorated with CeO2 (CeO2-S400) as an efficient catalyst for the dephosphorylation of 4-nitrophenyl phosphate disodium salt hexahydrate are reported. The presence and distribution of CeO2 are evidenced by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) (118.7 mg/g), high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), and energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) mapping. The apparent rate constant for the efficient catalysis of 4-nitrophenyl phosphate disodium salt hexahydrate was 0.097 ± 0.01 for CeO2-ES and 0.15 ± 0.03 min-1 for CeO2-S400, which followed first-order kinetics. Rate constants normalized by the catalytic loading (k m) were 80.84 and 15.00 g-1 min-1 for CeO2-ES and CeO2-S400, respectively, and the normalized rate constants with respect to surface area were 3.38 and 0.04 m-2 min-1 for CeO2-ES and CeO2-S400, respectively. This indicates that the presence of CeO2 nanoparticles has a catalytic effect on the dephosphorylation reaction.

Project description:A series of Cu-Pd alloy nanoparticles supported on Al2O3 were prepared and tested as catalysts for deNO x reactions. XRD, HAADF-STEM, XAFS, and FT-IR analyses revealed that a single-atom alloy structure was formed when the Cu/Pd ratio was 5, where Pd atoms were well isolated by Cu atoms. Compared with Pd/Al2O3, Cu5Pd/Al2O3 exhibited outstanding catalytic activity and N2 selectivity in the reduction of NO by CO: for the first time, the complete conversion of NO to N2 was achieved even at 175 °C, with long-term stability for at least 30 h. High catalytic performance was also obtained in the presence of O2 and C3H6 (model exhaust gas), where a 90% decrease in Pd use was achieved with minimum evolution of N2O. Kinetic and DFT studies demonstrated that N-O bond breaking of the (NO)2 dimer was the rate-determining step and was kinetically promoted by the isolated Pd.

Project description:In this study, we reported the ammonium metavanadate (NH4VO3) as an efficient, cost-effective, and mild catalyst for the synthesis of substituted pyridines via a one-pot pseudo four-component reaction. Furthermore, we investigated Hantzsch 1,4-dihydropyridines (1,4-DHPs) synthesis and oxidation of 1,4-DHPs to their corresponding pyridines. The present approach offers a rapid methodology for accessing various pyridines with broad functional group tolerance and good yields using NH4VO3 catalyst as a green catalyst.

Project description:A series of Cu@Pd/C with different Pd contents was prepared using the galvanic reduction method to disperse Pd on the surface of Cu nanoparticles on Cu/C. The dispersion of Pd was regulated by the Cu(I) on the surface, which was introduced by pulse oxidation. The Cu2O did not react during the galvanic reduction process and restricted the Pd atoms to a specific area. The pulse oxidation method was demonstrated to be an effective process to control the oxidization degree of Cu on Cu/C and then to govern the dispersion of Pd. The catalysts were characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), high-resolution transmission electron microscope (HRTEM), high angular annular dark field scanning TEM (HAADF-STEM), energy-dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) mapping, X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), auger electron spectroscopy (AES), and inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometer (ICP-OES), which were used to catalyze the hydrogen evolution from ammonia borane. The Cu@Pd/C had much higher activity than the PdCu/C, which was prepared by the impregnation method. The TOF increased as the Cu2O in Cu/C used for the preparation of Cu@Pd/C increased, and the maximum TOF was 465 molH2 min-1 molPd-1 at 298 K on Cu@Pd0.5/C-640 (0.5 wt % of Pd, 640 mL of air was pulsed during the preparation of Cu/C-640). The activity could be maintained in five continuous processes, showing the strong stability of the catalysts.

Project description:A series of AuPd/C catalysts were prepared and tested for the first time for active and stable dehydrogenation of a formic acid-ammonium formate (FA-AF) mixture. The catalysts with different Au-to-Pd molar ratios were prepared using a facile simultaneous reduction method and characterized using transmission electron microscopy (TEM), high-resolution TEM, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. It was found that the catalytic activity and stability of the Au3Pd1/C catalyst was the best. The initial turnover frequency for the dehydrogenation of the FA-AF mixture over the Au3Pd1/C catalyst can reach 407.5 h-1 at 365 K. The reaction order with respect to FA and AF is 0.25 and 0.55, respectively. The apparent activation energy of dehydrogenation is 23.3 ± 1.3 kJ mol-1. The catalytic activity of the Au3Pd1/C catalyst remains ca. 88.0% after 4 runs, which is much better than the single Pd/C catalyst. The mechanism for the dehydrogenation is also discussed.

Project description:Allylic alcohols typically produced through selective hydrogenation of α,β-unsaturated aldehydes are important intermediates in fine chemical industry, but it is still a challenge to achieve its high selectivity transformation. Herein, we report a series of TiO2-supported CoRe bimetallic catalysts for the selective hydrogenation of cinnamaldehyde (CAL) to cinnamyl alcohol (COL) using formic acid (FA) as a hydrogen donor. The resultant catalyst with the optimized Co/Re ratio of 1:1 can achieve an exceptional COL selectivity of 89% with a CAL conversion of 99% under mild conditions of 140 °C for 4 h, and the catalyst can be reused four times without loss of activity. Meanwhile, the Co1Re1/TiO2/FA system was efficient for the selective hydrogenation of various α,β-unsaturated aldehydes to the corresponding α,β-unsaturated alcohols. The presence of ReOx on the Co1Re1/TiO2 catalyst surface was advantageous to the adsorption of C=O, and the ultrafine Co nanoparticles provided abundant hydrogenation active sites for the selective hydrogenation. Moreover, FA as a hydrogen donor improved the selectivity to α,β-unsaturated alcohols.

Project description:Recently, mesoporous carbon nitride (MCN) has aroused extensive interest for its potential applications in organocatalysis, photo- and electrochemistry and CO2 capture. However, further surface functionalization of MCN for advanced nanomaterials and catalysis still remains very challenging. Here we show that acidic carboxyl groups can be smoothly introduced onto the surface of well-ordered MCN without annihilation between the introduced acid groups and MCN's inherent basic groups through a facile UV light oxidation method. The functionalization generates a novel bifunctional nanocatalyst which offers an enzyme-like catalytic performance in the one-pot deacetalization-Knoevenagel reaction of benzaldehyde dimethylacetal and malononitrile with 100% conversion and more than 99% selectivity due to the cooperative catalysis between the acid and base groups separated on the surface of the catalyst. The results provide a general method to create multifunctional nanomaterials and open new opportunities for the development of high efficient catalyst for green organic synthesis.

Project description:Enhancing the intrinsic activity and space time yield of Cu based heterogeneous methanol synthesis catalysts through CO2 hydrogenation is one of the major topics in CO2 conversion into value-added liquid fuels and chemicals. Here we report inverse ZrO2/Cu catalysts with a tunable Zr/Cu ratio have been prepared via an oxalate co-precipitation method, showing excellent performance for CO2 hydrogenation to methanol. Under optimal condition, the catalyst composed by 10% of ZrO2 supported over 90% of Cu exhibits the highest mass-specific methanol formation rate of 524 gMeOHkgcat-1h-1 at 220 °C, 3.3 times higher than the activity of traditional Cu/ZrO2 catalysts (159 gMeOHkgcat-1h-1). In situ XRD-PDF, XAFS and AP-XPS structural studies reveal that the inverse ZrO2/Cu catalysts are composed of islands of partially reduced 1-2 nm amorphous ZrO2 supported over metallic Cu particles. The ZrO2 islands are highly active for the CO2 activation. Meanwhile, an intermediate of formate adsorbed on the Cu at 1350 cm-1 is discovered by the in situ DRIFTS. This formate intermediate exhibits fast hydrogenation conversion to methoxy. The activation of CO2 and hydrogenation of all the surface oxygenate intermediates are significantly accelerated over the inverse ZrO2/Cu configuration, accounting for the excellent methanol formation activity observed.

Project description:Programmed cell death protein 1 (PD-1) plays a significant role in suppressing antitumor immune responses. Cancer treatment with immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) targeting PD-1 has been approved to treat numerous cancers and is the backbone of cancer immunotherapy. Anti-PD-1 molecule is necessary for next-generation cancer immunotherapy to further improve clinical efficacy and safety as well as integrate into novel treatment combinations or platforms. We developed a highly efficient hybridoma generation and screening strategy to generate high-potency chimeric anti-PD-1 molecules. Using this strategy, we successfully generated several mouse hybridoma and mouse/human chimeric clones that produced high-affinity antibodies against human PD-1 with high-quality in vitro PD-1/PD-L1 binding blockade and T cell activation activities. The lead chimeric prototypes exhibited overall in vitro performance comparable to commercially available anti-PD-1 antibodies and could be qualified as promising therapeutic candidates for further development toward immuno-oncology applications.

Project description:In this work, Cu2O nanoparticles (NPs) were created in situ on graphene functionalized with Thermomyces lanuginosus lipase (G@TLL) where site-oriented supported TLL acted as template and binder in the presence of copper salt by tailorable synthesis under mild conditions, producing a heterogeneous catalyst. Cu2O NPs were confirmed by XRD and XPS. The TEM microscopy showed that the nanoparticles were homogeneously distributed over the G@TLL surface with sizes of 53 nm and 165 nm. This G@TLL-Cu2O hybrid was successfully used in the degradation of toxic organic compounds such as trichloroethylene (TCE) and Rhodamine B (RhB). In the case of TCE, the hybrid presented a high catalytic capacity, degrading 60 ppm of product in 60 min in aqueous solution and room temperature without the formation of other toxic subproducts. In addition, a TOF value of 7.5 times higher than the unsupported counterpart (TLL-Cu2O) was obtained, demonstrating the improved catalytic efficiency of the system in the solid phase. The hybrid also presented an excellent catalytic performance for the degradation of Rhodamine B (RhB) obtaining a complete degradation (48 ppm) in 50 min in aqueous solution and room temperature and with the presence of a green oxidant as H2O2.
