Gibberellins Play an Essential Role in the Bud Growth of Petunia hybrida.

ABSTRACT: This study delves into the role of gibberellin (GA) in governing plant branch development, a process that remains incompletely understood. Through a combination of exogenous hormone treatment, gene expression analysis, and transgenic phenotype investigations, the impact of GA on petunia's branch development was explored. The results showed that GA3 alone did not directly induce axillary bud germination. However, paclobutrazol (PAC), an inhibitor of GA synthesis, effectively inhibited bud growth. Interestingly, the simultaneous application of GA3 and 6-BA significantly promoted bud growth in both intact and decapitated plants compared to using 6-BA alone. Moreover, this study observed a significant downregulation of GA synthesis genes, including GA20ox1, GA20
