ABSTRACT: Background
Osteoporotic fractures signal severely compromised bone strength and are associated with a greatly increased risk of refracture. Despite the availability of effective and safe medications that reduce fracture risk, 70-80% of patients are inadequately investigated or treated for osteoporosis following an initial fracture, constituting a significant 'osteoporosis care gap'. Optimal methods of bridging this gap with primary care at the forefront of secondary fracture prevention remain undetermined. This protocol describes a cluster randomised controlled trial to evaluate the effectiveness of a novel integrated model of secondary fracture prevention and management in primary care. Methods
