ABSTRACT: Background
Rabdosiae rubescentis herba (Isodon rubescens) is widely used as a folk medicine to treat esophageal cancer and sore throat in China. Its germplasm resources are abundant in China, with I. rubescens (Hemsl.) Hara and I. rubescens f. lushanensis as 2 typical forms. I. rubescens (Hemsl.) Hara is featured by biosynthesis of the diterpenoid oridonin with strong anticancer activity, while I. rubescens f. lushanensis produces another diterpenoid with anticancer activity, lushanrubescensin. However, the biosynthetic pathways of both still need to be fully understood. In particular, little is known about the genetic background of I. rubescens f. lushanensis.Findings
