Peripheral Population Status and Habitat Suitability Assessment of the Kiang (<i>Equus kiang</i>) on the Eastern Tibetan Plateau.

ABSTRACT: Shiqu County, Sichuan Province, forms the eastern edge of the distribution area of the kiang (Equus kiang). It is important to assess the population and habitat status of peripheral populations, as these play a significant role in the development of conservation strategies for kiangs. Based on field transect data collected from July to August 2023, this study predicted the suitable habitat distribution of kiangs in Shiqu County using a MaxEnt model and estimated the population size and density using the 'Distance' package. Additionally, it analyzed the responses of the group size of kiangs to environmental factors in Shiqu County.
