Camera-on-tip endoscope for in vivo cardiovascular diagnostics and surgical guidance.

ABSTRACT: Cardiovascular imaging with camera-on-tip endoscopes has the potential to provide physiologically relevant data on the tissue state and device placement that can improve clinical outcomes. In this work, we review the unmet clinical need for image-based in vivo cardiovascular diagnostics and guidance for minimally invasive procedures. We present a 7 Fr camera-on-tip endoscope with fibre-coupled multispectral illumination that includes methods for imaging in a blood-filled field of view (FOV). We demonstrate that the endoscope can be navigated from the femoral artery to cardiac regions such as the left atrium and left ventricle in a porcine model, where in vivo images of the cardiac walls are recorded. We further show that physiologically relevant parameters such as heart rate
